The landscape relating to Classic Bo ats-that is, production boats over twenty-five years old and launched since 1967-is a vast and ever-expanding one, made up of hulls of all shapes and sizes and, perhaps, not as easily “navigable” as one would often like. In light of this, in addition to our sections on Historic Classic Boats and Your Classic Boats, a new series of articles is born, aimed, boatyard by boatyard, at exploring 5 exceptional hulls, projects fundamental to the evolution of boating and of the “brand” itself. Proceeding alphabetically, then, here are 5 of the best Oceanis Beneteau has ever launched.

Comar Comet, 5 exceptional hulls from 9 to 14 meters
Founded in Forlì in the 1960s, Comar is one of the great pioneers of local and international shipbuilding. Among the first shipyards to employ fiberglass in series production, it would soon become one of the ‘bigs’ in the sector, producing immortal hulls such as the small Meteor, as well as series capable of deeply impacting Mediterranean sailing culture. In this case, we are talking about the Comet line, a fundamental experience for sailing today.
Comet 910
specs: 9.10 x 3.06 m; 1971-1987; #491; Van de Stadt & Finot It is the early 1970s and mass construction in fiberglass is in its infancy. It is not many years, in fact, since those first French experiences signed Dufour and, in Forli, Comar is just as pioneering. Indeed, here, with the magical signatures of Van de Stadt and Finot, a hull destined to go down in history comes to life, a boat for everyone, easy, generous and agile. It is the Comet 910, a small masterpiece worth no less than 491 examples produced. For Comar it is an unparalleled success, one of the milestones capable of launching the shipyard to new heights.
Comet 333
specs: 10.30 x 3.35 m; 1989-1990; #N/A; Vallicelli In the late 1980s Studio Vallicelli was one of Comar’s great collaborators. In this role, it signs a gem in 1988, an exceptional Three-quarter Tonner. It is the Comet 333, a hull that, by design and rig, wants to run before anything else. Comar, however, wants to know how to meet the needs of cruising, and furnishes it as a small cruiser, providing generous interior space and comfort. Nevertheless, the 333 continues to run. Not for nothing will it also be made in a special racing version for the first edition of the 1989 Giro d’Italia Sailing Tour.
Comet 11
specs: 10.80 x 3.60 m; 1977-1993; #187; Groupe Finot She is the ‘scandal’ boat, an indelible landmark of Comar. Signed by the iconoclastic hand of Finot, the Comet 11 is in fact a hull never seen at its launch (1977): a tall, applique deckhouse with huge smoked U-shaped window, a deep, protected cockpit and unusual lines to say the least. For purists it will be a provocative hull to say the least, but for those who look to comfort and cruising it is a masterpiece. The numbers bear this out, as many as 187 examples produced. A pivotal landmark in the evolution of design.
Comet 12
specs: 12.63 x 3.90 m; 1985; #N/A; Vallicelli Prior to the little masterpiece called Comet 333, Vallicelli had already signed another bolide for Comar, this one, the legendary Comet 12. A masterpiece of the shipyard, she is a cruiser not only efficient in her cruise use, but also excellent as a high-performance boat. The lines are clean, the hull seaworthy and safe, and under the waterline all the studio’s experience in the racing world emerges. Simply a gem.
Comet 460
specs: 14.20 x 3.80 m; 1987-1993; #122; Groupe Finot Perhaps among the most valuable Comets ever produced, the Comet 460 was born, again, from the brilliant pens of Groupe Finot, who designed an incredibly elegant, fast and marine hull. Adding to this component was a brilliant business technique on the part of Comar, which was able to sell a good portion of the hulls produced (120 in total), even before production began, thus guaranteeing an impeccable production capacity, creating a model that was not only high-performing, but also at the pinnacles of quality standards.
Bonus – Meteor & Genesis 43
Not part of the Comet series, however, two other unexceptionable productions by Comar cannot be ignored. On the one hand, certainly, the small but immortal Meteor(HERE its card), in production since 1968 and still strong today with a very close-knit championship. On the other hand, the exceptional and very ambitious Genesi 43(HERE), signed by the master Vallicelli and unique of its kind. No one, at her launch, had ever dared so much.
