The landscape relating to Classic Bo ats-that is, production boats over twenty-five years old and launched since 1967-is a vast and ever-expanding one, made up of hulls of all shapes and sizes and, perhaps, not as easily “navigable” as one would often like. In light of this, in addition to our sections on Historic Classic Boats and Your Classic Boats, a new series of articles is born, aimed, boatyard by boatyard, at exploring 5 exceptional hulls, projects fundamental to the evolution of boating and of the “brand” itself. Proceeding alphabetically, then, here are 5 of the best Oceanis Beneteau has ever launched.

Beneteau Oceanis, 5 exceptional hulls from 9.8 to 13.5 meters
In the second half of the 1980s, Beneteau needed to revitalize its production, which had now become world-wide after a decade of success with the First range. Thus, in 1986, it attempted the gamble and, with Philippe Briand as architect, launched two new hulls as forerunners to a new range: they were the Oceanis 350 and Oceanis 430, harbingers of an immense success to come.
Beneteau Oceanis 311
specs: 9.83 x 3.2 m; 1998-N/A; #1042; Groupe Finot In 1998 the Oceanis range had been underway for a decade and Beneteau decided to introduce a new “baby” to its pure cruising line-up. Thus, in collaboration with Groupe Finot, it will give birth to the Oceanis 311, like its peer First 31.7, also strong with a powerful hull derived from the Figaro 1, but slightly longer, with all the attention placed on comfort and ease of handling. The result is a marine but gentle hull, not necessarily slow, on the contrary, but dedicated to pure pleasure aboard. Voluminous interiors and easy maneuvering will make it a success from 1042 hulls sold.
Beneteau Oceanis 350
specs: 10.31 x 3.43 m; 1986-1993; N/A; Phillipe Briand With the Beneteau Oceanis 350 we face a fundamental milestone: it is the hull with which the Oceanis range was born. Signed by Philippe Briand in 1986, it is intended to be a hull that speaks to cruisers, to all those who want a boat to take to the sea and explore coasts, islands, and go where they wish. She will become an icon. The windowed deckhouse gives ample light to the interior, spacious in its own right; the hull is seaworthy, powerful, yet docile and easily driven; comfort is pervasive. She will be the perfect success for the launch of the line.
Beneteau Oceanis 361
specs: 11.10 x 3.80 m; 1999-2004; N/A; Berret-Racoupeau Comfortable and easy to run, strong with roomy interior volumes and with up to 3 double cabins, the Oceanis 361 is a small boatyard success story. Created in 1999 to a design by Berret-Racoupeau, it is in fact a small/large cruiser destined to become a favorite in the “small charter” world. Strengthened by a “round” hull with a set-back maximum beam and a stern with a reduced wetted surface, its volumes immediately made it the ‘cruiser of the 2000s,’ a must among both enthusiasts and charters of the time.
Beneteau Oceanis 430
specs: 12.96 x 4.22 m; 1986-1992; N/A; Phillipe Briand In the same year as the Oceanis 350, the first hull in the range, the big brother, the Oceanis 430, then the line-up flagship, was born. Still signed by Philippe Briand and strong with its iconic windows, it is even more harmonious than its younger brother, with a flat deckhouse that makes it look almost like a “flush deck.” Briand also designs the interior volumes, brilliant, capable of making it look even larger than its already abundant 12 meters.
Beneteau Oceanis 440 and 44 CC
specs: 13.59 x 4.27 m; 1990; #200+; Bruce Farr In just 4 years over 200 hulls have been produced between these two models, twins, yet so different. Bruce Farr signs the 440 for Beneteau, in fact offering two variants: the 440, designed for charter, lighter by 2 tons, and the 44CC, mid-cockpit, for owner-owner use. The latter is perhaps the most profoundly complete, with an even more cruising hull, optimized for long stays aboard and busy sailing. The numbers speak volumes, a success, even overseas, where she will be named ‘Clipper,’ precisely because of her marine qualities.
