Fans of the X-Yachts brand have been waiting for it for years, and finally here it is, the Danish shipyard’s new sports and racing boat, the XR 41, the result of an internal team effort that also involved Danish Olympian Jesper Radich. The first model has been christened “Formula X” and has seen the water in Denmark, where the first sailing tests begin these days, with the goal of participating in the 2025 ORC World Championship held in Tallinn, Estonia, August 8-16.
XR41 – What a boat it is
In fact, the hull of the new XR41 is also designed to compete with rating systems, ORC in particular. This can be seen in the reduced wetted surface area the boat has, which, when moored, touches only with the narrowest central area of the hull, leaving out the stern knees and part of the rear hull. This is a classic “trick” that designers use to improve ORC racing of boats and also allows for a deficiency with little drag in flat boat and light wind conditions.
Also interesting is the bow design, inverted and flared, which is quite modern and distinctive for the boat’s lines. The maximum beam from amidships towards the stern, on the other hand, continues quite evenly without narrowing too much, suggesting a certain propensity towards load-bearing gaits. There is a lot of curiosity to see her at work, but for the public presentation the wait will be short-lived, as the world premiere is scheduled for the Boot in Dusseldorf, January 18-26, 2025.
