When we think of a type of boat where sailing fun counts first and foremost, we can only imagine a daysailer, the perfect prototype boat for day trips. Boats where designers for once can only worry about how to achieve a fast hull coupled with a sail plan that allows them to raise canvas in the slightest breeze. With this philosophy comes the Woy 26 in Germany, a Berckemeyer Yacht Design design, made of wood, based on a concept by builder Jan Brügge.
Woy 26 – What a boat it is
A boat that we could call young and essential. Young because it has modern lines and a concept that winks at sport and adrenaline sailing. Essential because it wants to be a boat that is simple to steer, easy, while still allowing itself a Keel facelift that will appeal to those who want to use it for coastal and pleasure sailing as well, thanks to the draft that ranges from 0.80 to 2 meters. The double rudder helps with heeling boat handling, working in conjunction with the T-shaped keel that must support a sail plan with square top mainsail and self-tacking jib. The wooden construction, left with its almost natural exposed color, also makes it a bit retro in style, going to complete that perfect identikit for daysailers that also wants them to be aesthetically appealing. The organization of the maneuvers is interesting, with a single central winch, leaving the deck plan rather clean and with a pleasing “naked” effect. All in all, another gem in the diverse world of Nordic daysailers.
Woy 26 – The data sheet
Length 8 mt Width 2.42 mt Draft 0.80 – 2 mt Displacement 1100 kg Mainsail 21.5 sqm Self tacking jib 14 sqm
