After 1,492 nautical miles and more than nine days of racing, Team Deas took first place in the longest regatta in the Mediterranean, the Marina Militare Nastro Rosa Veloce, which ended Nov. 13 in Genoa.
A grand closing with lots of spectators to welcome the competing teams, organizers and representatives of the Navy. The 4th edition of the Marina Militare Nastro Rosa Veloce, an offshore regatta that started from Venice last Nov. 3, ended in Genoa on Nov. 13 after a long and exciting circumnavigation of Italy. Along the 1,400-plus nautical mile course, the ten participating teams, made up of world-class sailors, competed in a challenging and suspenseful race aboard Bénéteau Figaro 3s, dedicated offshore racing beasts equipped with foils. Taking the victory was “Team Deas” composed of Francesco Farci and Pietro Mureddu (Cataldo lighthouse boat). Behind them came “Team RORC 1” of Ivar Elstrodt and Jelle Lourens (Polveraia lighthouse boat) in second and “Team Waving Meadows” of Silvio Sambo and Manuel Polo (Spadillo lighthouse boat) in third.
A regatta between sports and promotion of the territory
The Marina Militare Nastro Rosa Veloce, a sporting event organized by Difesa Servizi SpA in collaboration with the Navy and supported by the Italian Sailing Federation, is distinguished not only by the very high level of the sporting competition, but also by the fascinating route that promotes the Italian coastline and lighthouses, symbols of maritime tradition. This year, light wind conditions demanded the utmost skill from the crews, who showed remarkable commitment and perseverance until the finish. The awards ceremony, hosted at the Galata Museo del Mare in Genoa, was attended by institutional representatives, including the President of the Region of Liguria, Marco Bucci, and the Sports Councillor of the City of Genoa, Alessandra Bianchi. During his speech, the CEO of Difesa Servizi SpA, Luca Andreoli, stressed the importance of the regatta as a major event both in terms of sport and promotion for the territory.
Navy values and a successful format
Present at the award ceremony of the Navy Pink Ribbon Veloce, Navy Under Chief of Staff Admiral Giuseppe Berutti Bergotto praised the regatta’s contribution in spreading the values of respect for the sea and commitment. “Respect for the sea and the values of sacrifice and loyalty, which every sailor carries, were clearly represented in this competition,” the admiral said. SSi President Riccardo Simoneschi expressed his satisfaction with the growing success of the event, which involves more and more fans and competitors each year. “It was a compelling regatta, particularly tough but tackled by outstanding crews,” said Simoneschi, “and this is demonstrated by the compact arrival of the boats. This means that over the years this event has grown and will still be able to increase its prestige thanks to the ability to work as a system between institutional, public and private entities.” The Marina Militare Nastro Rosa Tour, in addition to being one of Italy’s leading sailing competitions, aims to promote the economy, culture and sustainability related to the sea, making it an important platform for growth for the territory and for sailing sport. Appointment for all lovers of offshore sailing to the next edition in 2025!
