5 used boats from 11.55 to 12.90 m
You will not only find excellent, well-maintained cruisers. There are also fast performance cruisers waiting for a new owner and even an ocean steel boat perfect for charter activities. A safe used car: guarantees the Sailing Newspaper!
Bavaria 37 – 11.55 m – Comfortable cruiser (with furling sails)
The first of the used boats taken from our market that we offer is a comfortable cruiser, a Bavaria 37 (11.55 x 3.68 m) that Japek Jakopin’s Slovenian firm J&J designed in 2000.
The model that took the place of the old 36 features a cockpit with an “old-fashioned” center rudder, with an opening on the transom to access the recessed aft platform. The boom is short, so the cockpit is free of the mainsail key, carried back to the deckhouse. The lines of the boat, all in all, are sleek. The boat’s sail area of 63.40 sq. m. pairs with a displacement of 5,360 kg (including 1,780 as ballast). The model for sale, which can be seen in Naples, is in the owner’s version with two double cabins fore and aft, a large bathroom, saloon with galley. The boat has had one owner since 2000 and is equipped with mainsail and furling genoa.
Jeanneau Sun Odyssey 40 – 12.20 m – A successful boat
We continue with the second of the used boats for sale, staying in the cruiser world. We are talking about a Jeanneau Sun Odyssey 40 (12.20 x 3.95 m).
In production from 1999 until 2003, it was designed by Daniel Andrieu: from the 40 DS (Deck Saloon, also designed by Andrieu) released two years earlier, it inherited the hull, which was very apt because it was able to make the boat express good performance (some model took some good satisfaction in regattas, coastal and long). This 40-footer was a bestseller with nearly 700 boats produced (compared to 200 for the DS). The maximum beam, almost four meters, is amidships, and the deckhouse has a low, unimpressive profile. Interesting-and anticipatory of design trends-is the double-rudder cockpit. Below deck, the interiors have good finishes and are bright. They were offered in layouts with two or three cabins and as many bathrooms. In the saloon, the table is on the starboard side, enveloped by sofas that become a double berth when needed. The boat for sale is located at Marina di Rimini, is from 2000 but is in good condition (never chartered, sole owner since 2006) and maintenance work has been done recently (last bimini and sprayhood redone in 2023).
Ile Disko – 12.64 m – The ocean boat you can charter with
The third of the boats used under the lens is a decidedly out-of-the-ordinary model. Indeed, a true one-off looking for an enthusiastic owner. We are talking about an Ile Disko (12.64 x 4.24 m) a sloop-rigged steel ocean-going boat with an integral 2.7 m to 1.5 m moving daggerboard.
Since the boat’s rated capacity is 20 people, she is ideal if you are looking for a boat with which to start a particular charter business, also because she has eligibility for commercial charter The history of this boat, named“Rumbera,” is peculiar because she has so many miles on her back. Launched in 1992 by the Porto Torres shipyards Croce del Sud, she was born as a ketch, but was refitted as a sloop in 1998, after two Atlantic crossings and a two-year trip to South America. Moored in Palau (Sardinia) since 1994, always followed and used in the summer months for day charters by the owner, she has been carefully refitted every year. Below deck, the layout includes a double aft cabin to starboard, aft cabin to port serving as a tool room, aft bathroom, central dinette with galley nook, double berth forward and another cabin forward, with second bathroom forward. Powered by Perkins 80 horsepower (from 2017), she is complete with all kinds of accessories for long-range and ultra-comfortable sailing.
Comet 41 S – 12.74 m – Missile made in Italy
Let’s move on with the fourth of the used boats under review today in our marketplace. This one is good for those who like to go fast, racing and cruising: a Comet 41 S (12.74 x 3.92 m), where the S stands, of course, for Sport, which used to qualify the more racer range of the Fiumicino-based Comar Yachts yard. The sail area is 97 square meters, for a displacement of seven and a half tons.
Competitive on the race courses, this 12-and-a-half-footer also features a sleek aesthetic and comfortable cruising interior. The hull has fairly rounded center sections, with significant maximum beam and very thin entrances.
At the engine, the submerged volumes are filled with a “bustle” that, by raising the value of the prismatic coefficient, makes it possible to maintain a proper trim even with the weights embarked at cruise. The deck is characterized by rounded shapes and extremely clean maneuvers. Below deck the rooms have the right measurements to be well livable. The model for sale (from 2006), in its “Carbon” layout optimized for racing, has one bathroom and three cabins. Equipped for every situation, cruising and racing of all kinds, she has plenty of sails, racing dunnage, and all spare parts such as original dunnage and cushions are like new.
The price is negotiable.
X-412 – 12.90 m – The performance cruiser according to Jeppesen
We remain in the world of thoroughbred cruiser/racer with the last of the used boats, a historic Classic Boat by Giornale della Vela that is therefore destined to increase in value over time. A true thoroughbred, namely an X-412 (12.90 x 3.91 m), designed by Niels Jeppesen in 1990.
It is the first model in X-Yachts’ Performance Cruiser segment. Totally lost the IOR influence, it was designed to better respond to the new IMS handicaps. Immediate success, what we would call a ‘trendsetter’ today. Produced in 252 examples in about 10 years, it set the standard for many boats to come.
The 1996 model for sale is very distinctive in its black livery. The engine was replaced in 2018 and a lot of refit work was done. The boat can be seen at the LNI in Trapani, Sicily.
