Ecobonus boat engine
Ecobonus boat engine, here’s how to get it. We explain it to you in this article

The first ecobonuses are also arriving for boaters, in this case funds for scrapping boat engines in favor of electric thrusters.

Ecobonus motor if you switch to electric

Proposing them is the decree signed jointly by the Ministries of Enterprise and Made in Italy, Environment, Transport and Economy published on Oct. 15 by the Department of Enterprise and Made in Italy, which will manage the initiative.

In the field are 3 million euros for the year 2024 that aim to encourage the ecological transition in the recreational boating sector in the same way as is happening in the automotive sector. Specifically, the “Sustainable Recreational Boating Incentive Fund” promotes the replacement of gasoline or diesel (“endothermic”) engines in recreational vessels with electric-powered engines, including the purchase of a battery pack, if any.

Who is eligible for the ecobonus engine

Both individuals (individuals) and businesses owning boats used for recreational, commercial or social boating purposes will benefit. By scrapping the old propulsion unit, it will be possible to purchase and install electric motors of power between 0.5 and 12 Kw of the outboard, inboard, inboard-outboard type Or even “Pod” thrusters.

Ecobonus engine, how much is it worth

Funding is provided through a grant of up to 50 percent of eligible expenses, with these limits:

– 2,000 euros for electric outboard motors with integrated battery;

– 10,000 euros for electric outboard, inboard, inboard-outboard or Pod engines equipped with an external battery.

How to get it

Interested parties can submit only one application for access to the grant, which can refer to the purchase of one or more engines. For individuals (natural persons) there is a limit of 2 engines and a ceiling of 8,000 euros. For businesses there is only a limit of 50,000 euros.

The application to access the motor ecobonus is made electronically from the website of the Ministry of Enterprise and Made in Italy through an application that is being finalized.

They should be indicated:

– master data;

– the details of the navigation license for pleasure boats (or the DCI for watercraft) for which the electric propulsion unit is intended, showing the serial number of the endothermic engine to be scrapped;

– an indication of the amount of the grant requested accompanied by the cost estimate showing the cost of replacing the internal combustion engine (endothermic) with an electric one, as well as the battery pack, if any; – the certified electronic mail (Pec) address for any communications related to the granting of the grant.

The process

This is the second time the motor ecobonus has been attempted to be launched. The first one was planned in 2022, but the funds remained at the stake. Then the initiative was reintroduced within the “Made in Italy” law of December 2023, and now the relevant implementing decree has arrived. All that remains is to wait for the ministry to place the model of the application to be submitted online as soon as possible. Bearing in mind that funds will be disbursed in chronological order of submission of applications and within the limits of allocated funds.
