Ben Ainslie tried today to put Britannia’s bow in front of Team New Zealand’s in race number 4 of this America’s Cup. The resistance of the British, however, lasted just 2 sides, at the slightest mistake by Ineos the Kiwis took off, closing the race without appeal. The light wind certainly did not seem to favor Britannia, which, although fast in the stern, paid bloodyly for every slightest blunder (as in the first Stern Gate), and in the tacking duels was inferior as restarts compared to Tahioro, which instead appeared devastating precisely in accelerations, as well as in upwind VMG and reduced drift. Ben Ainslie (Team New Zealand) cashes in at 4-0 but more importantly, at least so far, has never given the impression of being able to turn the tide. The only chance seems to be to win the start outright, perhaps even slapping a penalty on the Kiwis to try to keep them in cover by some margin. Easy said, far from done, not least because the New Zealanders are doing virtually nothing wrong and seem to be looking like they want to wrap things up quickly and risk-free. It’s back on the water on Wednesday, with races 5 and 6, and an AC match that seems to be slipping away quickly.
We discuss this today at 6:30 p.m. on the Cup Trial. This will be a special episode because before we talk about the race between the Kiwis and the British, we will have as guests Giulia Conti, Margherita Porro and Simone Salva, the two coxswains and the coach of the women’s crew of Luna Rossa Prada Pirelli Team. Then to follow will be our guests, Federico Albano, Giovanni Ceccarelli, Luca Bassani. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=N6H3lV7Vct8
