It was supposed to be the day of redemption attempt for Ineos Britannia, instead Ben Ainslie and co. come ashore almost 1 minute behind Team New Zealand in race number 3 ofAmerica’s Cup number 37. It was a heavy defeat, one that started at the start and materialized as early as the first sides of the race, with the British then making virtually no mistakes. A final that, the way it is going, almost seems reminiscent of the one in 2000 between Team New Zealand and Luna Rossa, with a challenger coming in after a hard-fought LVC final but crashing against the Kiwis’ wall. Peter Burning and co. make it clear from the start in Britannia what the air is like. The Kiwis, even though they are ahead 2-0, go on the attack: they do not espouse the tactic of a cautious start given the light wind and at the first opportunity they bite the Baronet in the neck. A very dangerous starboard tack-left tack, the foils do not touch by cm: the penalty to the Brits, port tack, is unimpeachable. Britannia comes out of the start already hurt by the penalty, with an all uphill match against a boat that already seemed faster yesterday. And today the music does not change: the top speeds are close, but the New Zealanders drift less and have better angles to the wind, plus they lead the boat sumptuously and do not miss a swing in the wind. The race is virtually without story, a relentless stretch to the finish. The wind drops out and the Race Committee does not let the fourth race take place, back on the water tomorrow. With the feeling that this America’s Cup final is slipping inexorably out of the hands of Ben Ainslie who had managed to win it back after 60 for England. We talk about it at 6:30 p.m. on Processo alla Coppa: guests of Mauro Giuffrè and Luca Sordelli will be Federico Albano, Luca Bassani, Francesco Bertone, Medea Falcioni and Ida Castiglioni. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=H_cDf2H0eHA
