5 used boats from 7.71 to 13.50 m

These are, indeed, “different” boats, out of the chorus.
Unique pieces, boats for connoisseurs, “old school” racing monotypes, vintage jewels: from the 8 m S.I. wooden to the Van de Stadt “globetrotter.” A safe used car: guarantees the Sailing Newspaper!

Gozzo Primula Mare – 7.71 m – The “oldstyle” cruise

Let’s start with the first of the used boats for sale in our marketplace. This is a Primula Mare sailboat (7.71 m) built in 1985 by the shipyard-now defunct-Primula Mare in Bogliasco, Liguria. “Titicchia,” this is the name of the boat, has the special feature of being cabin cruiser.
The interior, made of wood, offers 2/4 beds, new refrigerator, sink and stove, coffee table, chemical toilet, radio system, etc.
The hull is made of fiberglass and the deck of teak, the engine is a Nanni 40hp diesel (no license needed to use it) freshly serviced and fully functional.
The rig consists of a 4.70-meter mast, with mainsail (spiked rig) and jib.
It is sold complete with fitted canvas for winter.
The boat is in excellent condition and can be seen and tested in Gaeta at the Flavio Gioia Nautical Base.

Etchells – 9.30 m – Dennis Conner’s beloved boat

We continue with the second of the used boats for sale. Many sailing champions have sailed and are sailing on this keelboat.
Not the least of these is the great Dennis Conner, who won two world titles with theEtchells 22 (9.30 x 2.12 m).

Used Boats –
Etchells The Etchells is a nine-and-a-half-foot bulbous monotype boat with a generous sail plan, designed in 1966 by American designer E.W. Etchells, to participate in selections as an Olympic hull.
Today there are about 1,500 hulls built, and there is no shortage of racing circuits in Italy and around the world, so if you buy this boat the fun is assured.
Let’s come to the specific model for sale.
This is the boat that won the last Italian Minialtura Championship.
Launched in 1995 and maniacally maintained, it is a tidy hull, ready to race, complete with class safety equipment and current insurance.
It also has a twin axle road trailer, with two boxes, in perfect condition.
Price is negotiable, boat is visible in Rapallo.
A real enthusiast’s gem.

Taipei 36 – 10.75 m – Comfortable Made in Taiwan

The third of the boats used in the review has the look of a boat from the past, but its origin is more modern.
Armed as a ketch, here is a Taipei 36 (10.75 x 3.35 m).
The name betrays its origin: these boats, which enjoyed some success in the 1970s and 1980s in our country as well, were made of fiberglass in Taiwan, by the Chung Wa shipyard.

The design of the boat is characterized by a wide hull, a rather low freeboard, and a high deckhouse with many windows: under the hull hides a long keel.
If the hull and deck are constructed of fiberglass, the interior is made of teak: the same material with which the cockpit (with wooden rudder wheel) and deck are lined.
Going below deck, the saloon-accomplice to the high deckhouse-is of considerable size, with table and sofas that convert easily into beds.
In the bow is the toilet and the forward cabin with two V-beds. There is also another cabin aft, to starboard, behind the chart table.
This is a very comfortable boat, suitable for living aboard for long periods.
The model we offer is from 1978 and is in good condition.
Here is the list of work:

  • Fiberglass hull treated anti-osmosis
  • Total refitting performed by professional construction sites in 2021
  • Volvo D2 40 hp engine with about 200 hours
  • Raymarine electronics of 2021
  • Teak deck redone by Diurnal shipyard in 2023

8 Meters S.I. – 12.70 m – Unique piece!

The fourth of the boats used in the review is a unique, highly valuable piece.
It is in fact an 8 Meters International Tonnage (12.70 m) built in wood by the Mostes shipyards in Genoa back in 1953, designed by David Boyd (1902-1989), a famous nautical designer who trained in the studios of William Fife III.

The boat underwent a full refit in 2o18, which restored the interior to its former glory.
The deck is teak, and the mast and boom are spruce.
Below deck, a galley at side, two berths aft, owner’s forward, dinette with sofa bed await.
All the cushions are new.
Although the boat was born for racing (the 8-meter S.I. was the result of a regulation that allowed boats to race as equals since the early 1900s), it is equipped with every comnodity.
Windlass, bowthruster, refrigerator, boiler, electrical system, complete electronics.
The engine is a 38-horsepower Buck AS, with a three-bladed Max prop.

Madeira 44 – 13.50 m – Van de Stadt’s supercruiser

We close with the last of the boats used in the review, also a decidedly out-of-the-box model. Not many of you will have heard of the Madeira 44 (13.50 x 4.20 m). A boat designed by Van De Stadt in 1995 (and still buildable, just buy the plans) perfect for tackling any kind of sea in safety, speed and comfort. A boat designed for those who are looking for a home on the sea.

The sail plan, with 7/8 rig includes a large full-batten mainsail and the high-profile, easy-to-handle jib. The shrouds were placed farther apart, giving the mast better support. Under heavy loads the equipment will never be stressed, which is important in long sailing. The spacious master cabin (there are two others for guests) is located in the bow and has its own toilet/shower. The “wet” area is located near the entrance, which means you can reach the toilet, chart table, and kitchen with wet clothes without wetting pillows and other hard-to-clean items. To starboard and aft are ample storage spaces with large hatches. A generator, underwater compressor or heater, etc. can be installed in the deep starboard locker. A folding swim platform is integrated in the transom. The model for sale is from 2020 and is in its three-cabin, two-bathroom version. Equipped with every convenience, ready to sail, it can be seen in La Spezia.
