This weekend promises to be a great celebration of sailing at the first round of the VELA Cup in Procida. More than 80 boats have already registered for the most fun regatta there is.
Lots of events both on land and at sea. Here’s why you can’t miss it!
For the first time, the great SAIL festival makes a stop in Procida
Everything is ready for the first edition of the VELA Cup Procida.
An unmissable event, with many vintage and classic boats, such as the “Pianosa,” an old 1947 Sorrentino gozzo made by Antonino Aprea and used mainly as a maritime means of transporting foodstuffs and an additional means of embarking and disembarking detainees between Marina di Campo and Pianosa, now restored by Antico Cantiere del Legno Aprea. From Sept. 27 to 29, hundreds of among sailors and enthusiasts, united by the desire to have one last sail of the season will join together for VELA Procida, also on the occasion of the Feast of St. Michael the Archangel, patron saint of the island of Procida.
The appointment is set for 3 p.m. Friday, Sept. 27, with the inauguration of the VELA Cup village by Mayor Raffaele Ambrosino at the Marina di Procida.
At 6:30 p.m., welcome cocktail and presentation of the Passione Mare Award, intended for the Author whose work has best spread the culture of the sea and its values.
This year’s winner, chosen by the jury of the Procida-Isola di Arturo-Elsa Morante Literary Prize, is Davide Besana, a cartoonist among the most widely read and appreciated sea authors, for his Sail The Children project, thanks to which hundreds of children each year can discover the fascination of sailing.

On Saturday, the regatta takes place along a course that is truly unforgettable: clockwise around the island, passing through the canals of Ischia and Capo Miseno, and a second counterclockwise turn for the fastest boats.
