A new Nautor Swan is born, parallel to the current one.
It will produce super/mega yachts destined for the planet’s 2,781 ultra-rich, those with at least five billion dollars in assets.
This was announced by Sanlorenzo CEO Massimo Perotti (63), Nautor Swan’s new majority shareholder, at the Cannes Yachting Festival.
New Swans, new clientele
Perotti unveiled the future of a new Nautor Swan in the next few years, joining the existing Nautor Swan, which is famous for its sailboats.
The existing yard today has 20 models in its catalog of 128 feet long (about 40 meters) maximum.
But its future lies in sailing megayachts.
Labor Knight Perotti’s reasoning for the future of Nautor Swan, which began its career at Azimut at age 27, is simple.
The planet’s ultra-rich and their many families number 2,781, up 141 in 2024 (source: Forbes) from 2023-a nice6.5 percent increase.
Of these Earth’s paperonians, at least 50 percent already own or will buy at least one boat, obviously of a size of at least 40 meters.
In reality, they often own more than one, and the future propensity is to have, accomplice also to the push toward sustainability, even a sailing megayacht, not just a motor yacht.
To give an example of the favorable trend for sailing megayachts, Jeff Bezos (third richest man in the world) last year launched his 127-meterKoru.
The first aluminum Swans in Viareggio
This is where Perotti’s industrial idea for a new Nautor Swan, parallel to the existing one, starts.
He has also already announced the key elements that will characterize it.
The new shipyard will be based in Viareggio, the hulls will be built in aluminum, the design headquarters for the new mega Swan will be in Milan, commercial offices in the new port of Rapallo.
Dockside rumors give as likely a collaboration with the Nauta Yachts studio, which is based right in Milan.
The sailing men of Sanlorenzo
Within the Sanlorenzo Group, which now produces only motor boats, there are already those who know a thing or two about sailing.
Prominent figures in Perotti’s shipyard are Luca Santella (61), Head of Product Strategy of the Bluegame brand, an excellent sailor who has participated in two Olympics.
His brother Antonio (67), also a titled sailor is Vice President of the New Product Development business area.
Also not to be forgotten (he was present at the press conferences) is Perotti’s friend Corrado Di Maio (70), also a titled sailor, who a couple of years ago sold his Equinoxe, which was in the business of buying, selling, and chartering superyachts, to Sanlorenzo itself.
In the meantime, here’s what’s new with Swan
The current Nautor Swan meanwhile goes its own way.
In Cannes, the current management and former major shareholder Leonardo Ferragamo, who has become vice chairman of Sanlorenzo, presented the latest news and accounts.
Nautor Swan, which today has its production base in Finland, launched 29 boats in 2024 and has a turnover of about 100 million euros.
In Cannes it displayed the new 75-foot Arrow powerboat, the new Swan 88 hybrid-powered sailboats and ClubSwan 43.
Coming in 2025/2026 are the new Swan 51, Swan 80, and Swan 128 (whose renders you see on the page and which we will reveal soon on our channels).
Sanlorenzo aims for the top
The acquisition of Nautor Swan for Sanlorenzo means entering into direct competition with the Ferretti Group, which owns the Wally brand in sailing, and with Italian Sea Group, which owns Perini Navi.
It also means aiming for leadership in terms of sales.
In 2023 Sanlorenzo had sales of 840 million euros, Ferretti 1.11 billion euros and Azimut/Benetti 1.3 billion euros.
Italian Sea Group follows in the ranking with 363 million euros in turnover.
With the acquisition and development program of Nautor Swan (Sanlorenzo today has 60 percent, in 2028 the remaining 40) Perotti sees a chance to go to the top of the ranking.
