Thunderstorms are back in Barcelona, freshening the air over the city but at the same time disrupting the Louis Vuitton Cup schedule. The Race Committee tried hard to have the last day of the Round Robin held today, so as to allow the semifinalists the full 5 days of rest scheduled on the calendar, but eventually had to give up.
Thunderstorms left Barcelona without wind and after the clearing up the intensity and directions were so erratic that the races could not be held. Regattas that, by the way, carried enormous weight since the final Round Robin standings were being awarded that would determine the semi-final grid and the first elimination of this America’s Cup.
They breathe a sigh of relief for the French, who would have had to hold the crucial regatta for their stay in unstable and capricious wind conditions.
Luna Rossa, on the other hand, will not be too happy, who had every interest in keeping an extra round of rest in order to be able to better prepare for the semifinals.
As a reminder, should the Italian boat win the round robins, it will be able to choose its opponent for the semifinals. We will not air today’s episode of The Cup Process, which with its guests and all the analysis returns tomorrow when racing resumes from Barcelona.
