America’s Cup: so you can have the AC75 in miniature in your home
THE PERFECT GIFT!
Give or treat yourself to a subscription to the print + digital Journal of Sailing and for only 69 euros a year you get the magazine at home plus read it on your PC, smartphone and tablet. With a sea of advantages.
Costly, it must be said.
But 119.99 euros is well spent for the Emirates Team New Zealand AC75 construction kit made by Lego for the 37th America’s Cup in Barcelona.
This set from the Technic range consists of 962 pieces, which, once armed with patience, will allow you to create a miniature AC75 a whopping 68 cm tall and 56 cm long!
You’ll be able to use the cranks to inflate the hull-bearing arms with the new pneumatic features.
Once you’ve made the hull brick by brick, all you have to do is assemble the two sails to create the authentic 3D “softwing” shape.
This is a highly detailed model that will look great in your home.
There is also a “custom” version of Luna Rossa!
A civil engineer originally from Lake Como – a huge Luna Rossa fan – set about building (before the official ETNZ model we presented above came out) Luna Rossa’s AC75 with Lego bricks in 1:50 scale and 1,324 pieces.
The initiative is not officially linked to the team, but it is certainly noteworthy for its commitment and excellent achievement.
Enrico Moroni, who describes himself as “in no particular order, apprentice sailor, civil engineer, drone pilot, LEGO enthusiast, lifelong Luna Rossa fan,” has really been busy, and-not just because of the colors-we like his model more than the “original” one.
You can find him at the lunarossa_lego Instagram page and also on the Lego Ideas website, which allows fans to propose a project made in Lego bricks to, who knows, one day become reality and see it commercialized by the Danish brand.
