Roberto Lacorte, owner of FlyingNikka, the first flying boat with foils designed for offshore sailing, has never stopped loving “traditional” sailing.
LuluNikka, Lacorte’s new “classic” boat
The Pisan sailor has just launched LuluNikka, the new 12.80-m modern-classic designed by Giovanni Ceccarelli and built by the shipwrights of the Checchi shipyard in Massarosa, Lucca.
Lacorte’s intention, together with his wife Luisa, a co-owner and avid sailor, is to participate in a series of regattas and rallies of the classic and vintage sail circuit in the Mediterranean.
What boat is LuluNikka
Let’s come to the boat.
It is a 42′ long sloop (12 meters 80), designed by Giovanni Ceccarelli-Ceccarelli Yacht Design (Ravenna) and built at the Checchi Shipyard in Massarosa (Lucca), shipwrights since 1980, the year of the shipyard’s founding at the hands of Angelo Checchi.
A hull with classic lines built with traditional materials (starting with wood) thanks to Checchi Shipyard’s decades of experience.
Its exterior image is of a classic boat with a very pronounced sheerline, low freeboards and a reduced beam, the water lines reflect the studies made by the designer on modern boats and past America’s Cups such as +39 Challenge and Mascalzone Latino.
The deck plan features a low deckhouse and a small cockpit with large parts of the deck free in keeping with the classic design. Tiller rudder and a deep bulb keel to give good stability when sailing.
Construction is in Sapelli mahogany laminated wood.
The designer and shipyard urged by a demanding owner took great care in the design and construction of the exterior and interior.
The sail plan features a fractional rig with a Carbon fiber mast, the sails were made by North Sails, and the sail plan was optimized as sail area together with the sailmaker’s sail designer.
Thus Ceccarelli: “The goal was to have a boat that is safe, fast, easy to maneuver, beautiful to look at and above all very pleasant to live aboard.
I am sure that her owners will know how to love her as she deserves, I really have no doubt about that.
And I look forward to being able to see her sail, in her natural environment which is the sea.”
