The new Master’s program with Roberto Ferrarese at the Caprera Sailing Center Academy launches in October. A unique opportunity for advanced and personalized coaching, in which CVC’s top instructors, together with international champions, teach how to improve oneself in order to win at regattas.
Open to crews of established monotypes, such as those in the J70, RS21, ESTE24, MELGES, and J80 classes, to the most competitive sailors, and to students selected from the new CVC Academy training course, the course will be packed with content that goes far beyond maneuvers, tactics and strategy.
We asked Roberto Ferrarese, and instructors Dario Badalamenti and Guido Aschieri for some insights…

Win in racing with the Master’s program at the Caprera Sailing Center Academy

For several years now, great champions of international sailing, such as Roberto Ferrarese, Tiziano Nava, Tommaso Chieffi, Ganga Bruni, Giulia Conti, and Max Sirena, have been sharing their technical experience in the MASTER, the highest level course of the new CVC Academy training pathway.
If traditional courses give a method and standardization, in the Academy we start with sharing individual experiences and learning to get out of the box to optimize training.
For each crew, sequences of maneuvers, weights, organizing the roll in the crew, can be refined and small differences result in wins.

ROBERTO, THE SPORTS PSYCHOLOGIST AS A PERSONAL COACH

Roberto Ferrarese will be this year’s super-expert coach of reference for the CVC MASTER Academy.
The waters of the Maddalena archipelago become the gym for high-level comparison and training for those who, sailing champions, want to become serious champions.
Each day there will be up to seven crews on the CVC’s J80s on the water, in addition, crews of established monotypes, such as sailors in the J70, RS21, ESTE24, and MELGES classes, can also apply to participate with their own monotypes.
Roberto Ferrarese and the CVC Academy instructors will be on board or on the dinghies to follow and film each maneuver, to personally identify and correct each participant’s mistakes.
In debriefing day after day, the performance of the individual and the crew will be improved.
Roberto Ferrarese, besides being a professional and a champion, is also a psychotherapist and sports psychologist. In this MASTER he will teach how to enhance motivation, individual preparation for racing, and optimal interaction between the various roles on board starting from the concept that all-around well-being facilitates good performance.
It is a true personal coaching course, which starts from the individual’s skills and mental preparation for the regatta, teaches how to set daily goals, to be measured in the water.
It will highlight the dynamics that lead to being positive or negative in performance.
Each day of the master’s course will be brought back to a plan for comparing oneself, and each day will see one’s performance improve.

THE STRATEGY AND MENTAL VISUALIZATION OF MANEUVERS

Roberto Ferrarese will teach advanced strategy of fleet racing and match racing (in which he is a leading expert) the importance of preparing a Plan A/Plan B, race construction and basic percentages.
Space will be given to the technique of mental visualization of maneuvers, or the repetition of the maneuver with eyes closed.
This is a protocol that is also used in sports psychology for injured athletes but can be adopted on the water before reaching a buoy.

PRE-POST VISION, THE STATE OF FLOW AND GRACE UNDER PRESSURE

Techniques of “foresight and post foresight” will be used, that is, tactically and strategically guessing at wind swings.
Thus, racing weather, and how to take advantage of unfavorable conditions, will also be discussed.
One of the themes of the master’s course will be the state of Flow, or the ability to concentrate during sporting activity.
Attention will be paid to the elegance of gesture in movements, trim changes and topical moments since the elegance of a gesture often corresponds to the best performance.
It will be seen how much the movement of the crew, if elegant and refined, as in a dance, results in a gain in performance.
Roberto Ferrarese will explain how to maintain a state of Grace under Pressure, that is, to remain calm and elegant even in very difficult situations, while maintaining a strong and cooperative bond among the crew.

WELL-BEING, PERFORMANCE, RESULTS

The MASTER with Roberto Ferrarese of the CVC Academy, is not only a path to improve in racing, but also to learn more about oneself and excel as a crew.
A not-to-be-missed stop on that long journey to excellence, where the trinomial well-being-performance-achievement wins.
The program, registration and pre-requisites for the course, which will take place in October, are available at the ACM course, Master with Roberto Ferrarese at the Caprera Sailing Center Academy.
