Innovation in the world of marine propulsion takes a decisive step forward with Yanmar‘s new electric saildrive.
The Japanese brand will present its new E-Sail Drive engine range for the first time at the Cannes Yachting Festival.
The new engine is a “plug and play” system designed for a seamless transition from conventional engines to electric propulsion, thanks to the LiFePO lithium battery. Yanmar Marine International (YMI) once again confirms itself as a leader in technological innovation in the marine industry by launching its new range of zero-emission E-Sail Drive engines.
This innovative electric propulsion system is designed to offer boaters a more sustainable boating experience, without compromising the performance and ease of use expected from Yanmar products.
Watchword: simple and sustainable
At the heart of the new E-Sail Drive range is an integrated, modular platform designed to be installed effortlessly on existing boats and platforms, thanks to the48-volt “plug and play” system that allows easy replacement of existing classic combustion engines, with no modifications in the hull for existing Yanmar customers.
Not only that, Yanmar customers will be able to switch to electric and continue to be able to rely on the Japanese brand’s extensive and reliable global service network.
Currently, the range consists of three models: the SDe7 kW, SDe10 kW and SDe15 kW (equivalent to about 9, 14 and 20 hp) to meet different power and performance requirements.
The most powerful engine is theSDe15 kW, the flagship of the range, which will be on display in the Yanmar booth at the Cannes Yachting Festival, while the SDe10 kW model will be in action on the “Hanasaka” demonstration vessel, a Japanese word for Yanmar’s philosophy: pushing technology beyond boundaries for a future with more possibilities.
The two smaller engines weigh 68.7 kg, while the more powerful one comes in at 78 kg. The new E-Sail Drive engines are suitable for daysailers and catamarans up to 12 meters and guarantee the same high standards of quality and reliability that have made Yanmar a benchmark in the industry.
Floris Lettinga, director of sales and marketing at
YMI, stressed the uniqueness of this innovation: “Our electric propulsion system is different from others on the market. Our engineers have created a smart, integrated system on a plug and play platform that helps boaters easily switch to electric propulsion. We are all on a sustainability journey together, and with the E-Sail Drive solution we aim to inspire boaters to join us in reducing our environmental impact one step at a time.”
