Once again this year’s VELA Cup Costa Smeralda at Marina Cala dei Sardi was a real success. 28 competitors out of 39 entries completed the spectacular 12-mile course between the islands of Soffi and Mortorio in front of the Gulf of Cugnana. Lots of wind shifts and a compact start meant that all crews had a good time, both the most competitive and the first-time cruisers!
In the evening, as per tradition, we celebrated the winners (and those who got lucky in the draw) all together with drinks and music on the Marina’s green lawn.

The special prizes of the VELA Cup Costa Smeralda.
The VELA Cup Costa Smeralda is special because in addition to the “classic prizes” of each stage, there was the Bénéteau & Lagoon Cup, reserved for the boats and catamarans of the two shipyards for which NSS Yachting, the stage sponsor, is the official dealer for Italy.
Winning the prize reserved for the first Bénéteau hull was S.H.A.D.O., Antonino Maria Adamo‘s Oceanis 54, while winning the Lagoon Cup Maruzzella II, Federico Mosca‘s Lagoon 52. Nicola Filia’s Vèlite II, a Baltic 33,wins the Elegant Boat award reserved for the most beautiful and elegant boat in each leg, regardless of the result. Alessandro Taula wins the Gentleman Yachting prize for (almost) carrying out a mutiny, contrary to his father’s decision, tired of the constant wind shifts, to retire without trying to win at least the last-place prize.
Last but not least, Massimo Giagheddu’s Lucciola, a Grand Soleil 37, wins the special prize for last in line time, showing tenacity and determination to complete the course to the end.
VELA Cup Costa Smeralda – Prizes raffled off
Those familiar with the VELA Cup know: there are lots of raffle prizes up for grabs. The Garmin GPSMAP® 86s handheld GPS was won by Pasquale Taula while the Leatherman Skeletool CX utility knife was won by Salvatore Loriga.
Nicola Minardi de Michetti took home the YachtIngBond sailing jacket and Des Nagles the HiNelson backpack.
The ACSI Vela sailing instructor course was won by Massimo Giagheddu, the 40 percent discount on Moby A/R Livorno – Olbia by Ndiouga Mame, the3-year “Paper + Digital”subscription to the Giornale della Vela by Roberto Colombo and the Plastimo Pilot 165N life jacket by Alessandro Nespega. To finish, the IBSA Antonio Renzulli Wellness Box, USAIL Emanuele Foce’s Spider Shoes and Honda Nicola Filia’s BF2.3 outboard motor were awarded.
