You can follow all the “live” episodes on the Sailing Newspaper’s Youtube channel, at www.giornaledellavela.com or on our Facebook page, commenting live and interacting with our guests.
Missing an episode?
No problem, you can always watch (and review) them on our channels.
We will start with a post Preliminary Regattas episode on August 26, then a pre Louis Vuitton Cup one on August 28, and then from the 29th on each regatta day.WHO COMMENTS ON THE COPPA WITH US Let’s start by unveiling the regular guests who comment on the great adventure of the Italian national sailing team Luna Rossa (and all the other teams) with us.
Luca Bassani, founder of Wally and inventor of easy sailing (i.e., that philosophy of automation that allows you to sail a boat by yourself), will be one of the recurring faces of the Cup Process: his analyses, concise, timely and always out of the chorus, will help you better understand the world of AC 75s and, above all, the technology that moves them. Also confirmed is one of the stars who had followed the last America’s Cup with us, beloved by the public because he has a gift for explaining abstruse concepts in a simple way: the Italian-Brazilian professor Elio Somaschini, live from the race course in Barcelona.
Together with him discover why boats fly, why they go faster than the wind, why they fall, and why they sometimes give “noses” with their bows in the sea (“the problem is all in the slice of bread that falls off the buttered side,” Somaschini would begin). Aerodynamics on AC 75s is now a Formula 1 issue, in fact all teams have F1 engineers in their stable.
And we are not to be outdone: in fact, among the regular guests on the Cup Process is Federico Albano, an expert journalist on Formula 1 and sailing.
How the new boats behave, what are their hidden secrets, why are they so different from each other you find out with him. Our parterre doesn’t end here: in between ocean races, we are joined by 2024 Sailor of the Year Luca Rosetti, winner of last year’s Mini Transat, or solo Atlantic crossing on 20-foot (6.5-meter) dinghies.
Rosetti started out as a dinghy sailor, grew up on bread and racing tactics, and can explain to you, down to earth, the race strategy of the AC 75s, the tricks at the start and why Luna Rossa has to tack at that point and not the other.
There will be from Barcelona Ida Castiglioni (the first Italian to cross the Ocean in 1976) and Last, but not least, the British would say, the baby prodigy of sailing boards Medea Falcioni, 13 years old (14 in October), European IQFOiL Under 19 champion who has lined up opponents far older than her, winner at the Sailor of the Year Young Award.
Medea has a winner’s mindset, loves Luna Rossa madly, is used to turning with her board on foils, just like the AC 75.
But most importantly, she tells you about the America’s Cup through the eyes of a very young person!
THE SPECIAL GUESTS In addition to the “fixed” faces who accompany us on the Cup Process, there is a long list of
special guests who, from time to time, give their contributions: the very strong sailor (and builder of the fast Neo Yachts) Paolo Semeraro, Salvatore Sarno (the one who in 2007 brought Africa to the America’s Cup for the first time with Shosholoza), Ida Castiglioni (the first Italian to have crossed the Ocean in 1976), Marco Trombetti (the CEO of Translated who, after the round-the-world crewed race had ended, declared that he wanted to set up an America’s Cup campaign), just to name a few.
In addition, The Trial of the Cup connects with “The House of Sailing ,” sailing’s traveling clubhouse (we told you about it on p. 130). See you from August 26 on our channels. And come on Luna Rossa!
