Vacation time, time to get back on the boat, time for the first swims at the sea or lake. But what am I taking on the boat? Definitely a few things, the bare essentials, as the most important commandment states, “on a boat you carry only a little stuff.” And above all-don’t forget!
– only soft bags and pouches are used, not the diabolical trolleys that are usually carried on airplanes.
A small bag – or backpack – with 30 or 40 liter capacity is enough to carry what you need for a week on a summer boat, less is enough if we have to spend only the weekend there.
There are really many options to choose from, with brands more oriented to marine and practical products and others making solutions suitable for city use as well.
They are usually watertight bags, sometimes even waterproof, with lots of pockets and side holds for storing items and attaching accessories (water bottle, sunscreen, hat…) to take with you when you go ashore with the tender or SUP.
Costume and glasses
Inside the bag you definitely can’t miss the swimsuit, the main garment of the summer season on the boat and at the beach.
Choosing one that is easy to fold, dries quickly and takes up little space will make your life on the boat easier.
What about sunglasses, then?
They protect your eyes from direct and reflected light, especially on the water, where the sun can be particularly blinding and the glare can prove quite annoying.
Wearing sunglasses designed for boating (so with anti-UV and polarized lenses) not only protects you from the harmful effects of the sun, but also from wind and water splashes.
In addition, polarized lenses, which were initially popular in sports, are also useful when behind the wheel, as they protect against glare that can distract attention while driving.
In boating, sunglasses not only protect against light effects, but also allow a clear view of on-board instruments and electronic screens.
Making sure to have sunglasses on board at all times is therefore a key precaution to fully enjoy your days at sea while simultaneously protecting your eyesight and facilitating the boating experience.
Last necessary recommendation before you set sail: put only what is really necessary in your duffle bag and enjoy your boating vacation!
