Thursday, August 22 is the VELA Cup Costa Smeralda, the big sailing festival at the Cala dei Sardi Marina.
A truly unique event. A sailing festival with lots of prizes, fun and dreamy scenery. Just a step away from Porto Rotondo and Porto Cervo, in the Gulf of Cugnana, the Marina Cala dei Sardi is not the usual harbor, but an oasis surrounded by nature, the largest eco-friendly floating landing place in Sardinia. Mooring is free and right here two days of sailing and lots of fun await .
That’s why you can’t miss this end-of-summer event!

1) The VELA Cup Costa Smeralda is open to all.

The VELA Cup is open to all types of racing and cruising boats, small cabin cruisers and catamarans. There are no age restrictions and no bureaucracy: not even a tonnage certificate is required.
There will also be vintage and Classic Boats, boats at least 25 years old, whatever the material of construction (even fiberglass), with a ranking dedicated to them! All it takes is a mainsail and jib to register in the Cruising Boat category.
Those who have competitive aims, and want to use sails such as Spi, Gennaker or Code 0 instead can enter in the Sport Boat category.

2) Even to charter boats

Not a boat owner but want to participate in the VELA Cup Costa Smeralda?
Cala dei Sardi is the base of one of the most important charter companies: NSS Charter.
Here you can charter your boat for a summer cruise in Sardinia and participate in the VELA Cup Costa Smeralda!

3) The location is amazing!

The Gulf of Cugnana, between Portisco and Porto Rotondo, is a true natural harbor sheltered from the strong winds that characterize the area. We are in the center of the Emerald Coast, surrounded by enchanting beaches and islands, such as the Maddalena Archipelago and Capriccioli Beach. In this beautiful bay, you will find Cala dei Sardi, the most ecological marina in the Mediterranean.
A relaxing oasis surrounded by beaches, English lawns and clear waters where you can swim and sunbathe. The whole is just 16 km from Olbia airport.

4) Mooring is free for everyone

Mooring at the Cala dei Sardi Marina is free for all boats participating in the VELA Cup. On the state-of-the-art floating docks, there are 140 berths available for boats up to 70 meters. Alternatively, you can anchor in the protected roadstead of the Gulf of Cugnana, with free shore transfer provided by NSS Charter.

5) Valuable raffle prizes for all participants

If you were late to the finish line, luck may be on your side. As in every stage of the VELA Cup, there will be rich raffle prizes for all participants. At Italy’s most beautiful and entertaining regatta circuit (almost) everyone takes home something

6) A rich Gift Bag with gadgets and T-Shirts for all boats.

7) The course of the VELA Cup Costa Smeralda.

The route of the stage is breathtaking. The fleet departs from Porto Rotondo exits the Gulf of Cugnana; then, it heads north to make or circumnavigation of the island of Mortorio. After that it turns back with arrival just in front of Cala dei Sardi. In all, we sail about 20 miles in fairy-tale scenery. As for conditions, you generally find mostly flat water with breezes of 10-12 knots at this time, perfect for enjoying a regatta safely, indulging in tactics or just having fun with friends and family in a festive atmosphere.

8) At the Marina Cala dei Sardi the party is double

This year the VELA Cup Costa Smeralda is even richer. Not one but two evenings of celebration, with even the night before the regatta a concert (by invitation only to VELA Cup members) at the Sky Frontemare with live music by The Wave line-up.
On the evening of the regatta, on the other hand, after the prize giving, there is the classic rich refreshment with lots of music and fun!

9) Special awards to Bénéteau and Lagoon hulls.

At the VELA Cup Costa Smeralda in Cala dei Sardi, there are also special prizes for Lagoon catamarans, Bénéteau boats and the fastest charter boat.

10) Beach games and relaxation in the afternoon

Once the regatta is over, return to your berth, tidy up your boat and relax before the big night.
You can take a swim in the crystal-clear waters of the bay or drift around or even participate in fun beach games. And then pull your evening wear out of the bag-every look is allowed. But rich refreshments and lots of music are waiting to cheer you up!
