Creams, protections, supplements: how to prepare your skin for the sun on a boat

We know: in the boat only the bare essentials because the superfluous, as the word itself says, is already too much.
But skin is not to be trifled with.
Water, saltiness, sun and wind risk dehydrating it and making it age before its time.
That’s why, to enjoy beach life without mishaps (read: erythema and irritation) you need a beauty-case essential yes, but smart.

Before, during and after exposure

Before setting foot on a boat, it is necessary to have properly prepared the skin.
This can be done not only through gradual exposure to the rays, but also through preparations and supplements designed specifically to promote normal pigmentation of the skin and protect it from oxidative stress.
While sailing, however, it proves essential to turn up the filters.
The difference in latitude affects the strength of radiation also to choose the protection factor it is necessary to consider age, phototype and level of tan.
The advice is to never go below an SPF30, but it would be preferable to constantly slather yourself with an SPF50 and use, on sensitive and at-risk areas, full-screen protection such as sticks (which are useful, take up little space and are very practical).
How to choose the right sunscreen?
A pleasant texture to try is definitely milk: it has a light consistency that dries immediately, is non-sticky and does not ruin costumes and clothes without excessively greasy skin.
But choosing the right sunscreen is not enough.
You also need to use it in the right way: the protection should be sprinkled at least 30 minutes before going out in the sun and should be spread evenly and abundantly.
One last tip: sunscreen should be put back on regularly, knowing that sweat and bathing tend to wear off the cream, even in the case of water-resistant sunscreens.
Finally, even a bottle of thermal water becomes useful to refresh the skin and remove some of the saltiness.
After long exposure to the sun, our skin needs a helping hand to alleviate the “damaging” effects of the sun.
Applying an after-sun cream helps to preserve the skin’s firmness and restore the hydrolipidic film, counteracting dehydration and subsequent peeling.
