After bringing hundreds of boats and thousands of fans (in 2023 there were about 4,000) to the sea and to enjoy sailing every year, the VELA Cup also in 2024 brought a fun circuit of regattas-with a sailing party included!
– around Italy and the most beautiful seas of the Peninsula. Next September 28, then, the fifth leg of the 2024 edition brings Italian sailing enthusiasts to discover, or rediscover, the magnificent, lush and unique island of Procida.
Always an island of sailors, Procida is enveloped by an ever-clear blue sea in the gulf facing the magnificent city of Naples.
VELA Cup Procida – Why you can’t miss it
It will then be the Marina di Procida, between September 27 and 28, that will host this special VELA Cup event that brings together many different types of boating enthusiasts, including thoroughbred skippers and superstar cabin cruisers, all united by being truly passionate cruising sailors.
Awaiting all entrants is a breathtaking coastal course, in which, however, as always and in keeping with the VELA Cup tradition, any type of boat from 4 meters and up can participate; no certificate is required. It should also be noted that the Procida Marina is offering free mooring to participants for the nights of Friday, September 27 and Saturday, September 28, as well as a 10% discount on transit list for participating boats arriving earlier or departing later and a third consecutive night’s mooring reduced to 50%.
All subject to availability of places at the time of application of course.

Safe landing on the island that is a unique tourist pearl that the world envies us the Marina di Procida then provides the yachtsman with moorings equipped with every comfort and continuous assistance, as well as privileged access to the heart of the island’s lively town center.
And just between the village of Terra Murata and the seaside villages of Chiaiolella and Corricella, beautiful sandy beaches, small bays, unforgettable inlets and breathtaking views also unfold.
Not for nothing over the years the island was, for example, the protagonist of Elsa Morante’s novel “L’isola di Arturo” and the set of the film “Il Postino.”
Sailing and culture – the Elsa Morante award at the VELA Cup Procida
This cultural attractiveness of Procida has thus also made it a tourist destination rich in cultural events and literary festivals that witness its rich history and traditions to more and more guests each year.
So the concomitance between the VELA Cup Procida and the Elsa Morante Prize (which – now in its 37th edition – will be staged precisely on September 28 in Piazza Marina Grande) are not a lucky coincidence but the desire to tell even more and even better to yachtsmen and sailors the magic of a land that is unique for its mix of suggestions throughout the Mediterranean basin.
The boat tour of the island
Recognized in 2022 by National Geographic as an international tourist “place to be” precisely because of these unique peculiarities that cannot be discovered all at once elsewhere, Procida is now at the center of the routes that characterize the travel of the new, post-pandemic era, offering travelers and advanced boaters a wide range of tourist offerings that start from the sea and the delightful coves that the island hosts but also go beyond.
Those who then want to go and visit these unique beauties from their boat must first round the cape of Punta dei Monaci to the south and enter the splendid Cala di Corricella, always paying attention to the shallow waters, which are a maximum of two meters.
The spot is ideal for a swim with snorkeling while just beyond on the coastline the fashionable Chiaia beach also stretches out: right on the shoreline is also La Conchiglia Da Tonino Restaurant (tel. 081 8967602), which is perfect for eating fresh fish with island recipes. The cruise then continues south, past Punta Pizzaco, where there is the delightful little anchorage of Seno del Carbogno: here the sea has incredible shades of blue but you have to be very careful of the rocky seabed.
Next stop, located at the southwestern end of Procida, is the islet of Vivara: completely protected by a nature reserve of the same name, it is separated from the larger island by the Gulf of Genito.
Here it is possible to give bottom on sand without particular problems to enjoy from the sea the very green mass of Vivara.
Continuing then the navigation and going up the west coast of Procida you double Punta Serra to reach the two “twin” coves of Cala del Pozzo Vecchio of Punta Ottimo.
Delightful but tiny, they are a suitable spot for a refreshing dip at the end of the day’s cruise.
Ashore behind the coves you will then discover instead the Calacala (tel. 081 0102533) an elegant and contemporary address where you can dine on seafood with revisited cuisine. Staying still ashore, among Procida’s must-see spots for those who love history and culture is then also the Palazzo D’Avalos: this is an imposing building of 16th-century origin that was built right on the cliff overlooking the sea at Punta dei Monaci.
In its long history it was also an island prison and today tells a long piece of island but also Italian history (info and reservations at 333 3510701).
And if the walks ashore have then whetted your appetite, another interesting address for those who love seafood cuisine is Caracalè (tel. 081 8969192): you can eat outdoors at small tables overlooking directly on the piers of Marina Corricella, among the boats of island fishermen.
