Do you have a car with an electric motor and wish your boat had one too?
But what are the shipyards today that offer sailboat models with Full Electric motorization?
There are shipyards like Sunbeam for which electric motorization is already a standard, others like Elan that offer the entire range in electrified declination, and those who are still experimenting with this new technology, offering only a few models on the market as options.
We went rummaging through the shipyards’ listings to look for those boats you can buy today with an electric motor.
Here is our selection.

The electric-powered sailboats you can buy today

Arcona 415

Beneteau Oceanis 30.1 E

A versatile boat with which to tackle the rigors of offshore or enjoy short coastal sailings. Roadworthy thanks to its retractable keel and mast that can be easily rigged in a few moves, it has a displacement kept under 4 tons. The Oceanis 30.1 E is equipped with a full Torqeedo system, with a power output equivalent to 14 hp, which, thanks to the standard battery, a 5kWh 48V unit, offers up to 6 hours of autonomy at a speed of 4 knots, or 24 miles of range. Two 50-footers very similar but with two different souls: for sailing with family and friends and for offshore sailing. Contest 49CS has an aft cockpit (Mediterranean style) while the 50CS has a center cockpit. Both models mount a hybrid or all-electric powertrain made by Torqeedo with a 40kWh automotive-derived battery pack made by BMW. The battery, in addition to being able to be recharged at night by connecting to the dock, can be recharged while sailing, thanks to the propeller, which can be used as a generator when the boat is driven by the wind. Technical data: f.t. length: 28.27 m; w. 6.79 m; draught. 4 m; displ. 54,100 kg; sup. sail: 432.7 sq. m; shipyard: Nautor Swan; www.nautorswan.com

RS21

One of the most fun sport boats on the market, with a very lively class and a full calendar of events and regattas. Very simple rigging, gathered in a battery of mast-foot chokers. The rig is standard carbon, while the boat will be produced in two different versions, “racing” for racing in One design and Club with a more contained sail plan. The keel is liftable and the electric motor is retractable. Technical data: f.t. length: 6.67 m; w. 2.20 m; draught. 1.38 m; displacement 650 kg; sail sup.: 24.6 sq. m; shipyard: RS Sailing; www.rssailing.com

This Croatian cruiser was designed by Slovenian brothers Japec and Jernej Jakopin of the J&J studio. Although it has a rather pronounced deckhouse, functional to increase interior volume in tandem with a maximum beam of as much as 4.20 m, the sail plan and appendages give it a fairly sporty feel. She is equipped with two Oceanvolt electric motors, allowing for easy close maneuvering, and a hydrogeneration system that replenishes energy in the batteries while sailing. Tofinou 7.9

A daysailer with an almost completely flush deck silouette and a bow flex that winks, along with the shapes of the stern, at classic lines. Electric propulsion is ideal for daysailers, which normally make few hours of motion each trip, other than those needed to get in and out of port. The battery pack is removable and can also be recharged at home. Technical data: f.t. length: 7.94 m; w. 2.30 m; draught. 1.70 m; displ. 1,200 kg; sup. sail: 31 sq. m; shipyard: Tofinou; tofinou.com

X4⁹E

A cruiser-racer that is comfortable and easy to drive but also fun and performs well. This is X-Yachts’ first hybrid boat. On board it mounts a hybrid system consisting of two Oceanvolt electric motors of 10kW each, powered by a 28.8kWh battery pack, allowing the boat to reach a top speed of 7.8 knots. Technical data: f.t. length: 15.348 m; w. 4.49 m; draught. 2.40 m; displ. 12,900 kg; sup. sail: 119 sq. m; shipyard: X-Yachts; www.x-yachts.com

Xc 47E

High-performance cruiser built for safe and comfortable sailing on the oceans.
The hull lines have retained the deep V-shaped bow sections and the generous rocker, which is the curvature of the bow-aft line of the hull that is soft to provide a soft transition over the wave. In addition, the stern of the Xc 47 has a slight, soft edge that provides extra stability, improved performance in high winds, and more space in the aft cabins. On board it mounts a hybrid system consisting of an Oceanvolt HighPower ServoProp 25 engine (30kW peak, 25kW continuous power), powered by a 46.4kWh battery pack, which allows the boat to have a range of 30 miles at 6 knots. As with X4⁹E, there is also an 11kW generator on board this model to increase the range if needed. Technical data: f.t. length: 15.21 m; w. 4.56 m; draught. 2.30 m; displ. 14,900 kg; sup. sail: 119 sq. m; shipyard: X-Yachts; Xc 47E

wallynano37

Plumb bow and long stern rakes are not only elegant, but also give the boat more buoyancy at the bow-to “pierce” the waves-and more length at the waterline, increasing speed at heeled boats.
The single rudder and deep 2.6-meter bulb keel combine to provide incredible stability and control, even with the 75-square-meter sail plan (upwind). Capt to travel at 20 knots with a large Tails or gennaker, and thanks to its light weight, due to carbon construction, it performs well in light airs as well.
For mooring maneuvers, simply resort to the silent Oceanvolt electric motor.
Technical data: f.t. length: 12 m; w. 2.6 m; draught. 2.6 m; displ. 2,900 kg; sup. sail: 72 sq. m; shipyard: Wally;www.wally.comGiacomo Barbaro
