Few people know that as many as thirty-two of the ninety boats that paraded on the Seine at the opening ceremony of the Paris Olympics had just been converted to electric propulsion.

In France funding for electric and refit

The news has gone under the radar but it is important.
Thanks to state funding up to 90 percent of the cost with an initial allocation of 8 million euros.
The thirty-two boats, including large ones such as the famous Bateaux Mouches that take tourists on the river that runs through Paris, are not new but have literally thrown out their old endothermic engines to equip themselves with electric propulsion.
This is the first step the French state is taking in favor of electric conversion of the boat fleet.
The current bill also reserves a quota for the conversion of pleasure boats to electric. From France comes another initiative in favor of preserving the nautical heritage.
A law already in effect gives substantial grants to those who decide to restore classic and vintage cars and boats.
A few months after entry into force, French refit yards are full to capacity, and the second-hand market has been given new impetus with purchases of old boats with the aim of refitting them by financing them in part with the facilities.
Similar initiatives are also underway in the Nordic countries.
Why not take a cue from this French legislation in Italy as well.
Think what a boost to the world of historic Classic Boats!
