Thenew JPK 1050The JPK name is now synonymous with fast, race-winning marine boats.
In fact, the French shipyard’s boats have dominated all the toughest offshore races run in the world in recent seasons, achieving podium after podium.
For this reason when JPK launches a new model there is always a lot of curiosity.
As in the case of the new JPK 1050, the second smallest model in the range.

JPK 1050, watch out for this little one!

Here it is, the long-awaited JPK 1050 (10.45 x 3.54 m), the “little devil” that will have a say in the world of IRC long offshore racing.
Prow and hull reminiscent of the world of ocean racer “scow” (with rounded bow and flat hull), a hint of bow flare, double rudder and a prominent bulb fin (2.22 m draft).

The

JPK 1050The new boat from Jean-Pierre Kelbert ‘s French yard (hence the acronym JPK) was initially planned to be around 10.80/10.85 meters in length, with a hull quite similar to that of the previous JPK 1030.
To remain in a rating range that would allow access to the program’s interesting solo and doubles events, the dimensions had to be revised downward to allow the design and concept to be radicalized. Back in 2018, Jacques Valer (designer of the 1050) had designed the JPK 1030 as a “scow” version, and then softened the design in order to maintain the versatility that the yard feared losing.
Now it is clear that the concept works, with the example of the MN35, overall winner of the last Loro Piana Giraglia.

Performance Objective

The goal, to have a very powerful boat with full bow sections (scow type) and an unusual sail area/displacement ratio for an IRC boat (72 square meters of white sails, plus 125 square meters of asymmetric, for a weight of 3.5 tons), would seem to have been hit: the JPK 1050 will be a planing boat, ultra-efficient at poring gaits in general, but retaining interesting upwind performance due to its power, which allows it to take advantage of a very large sail area, even in a breeze.Reveals Kelbert: “After more than 10 months of work on the drawing board, the JPK, with the first test model to be launched in late 2024 and the first series of boats available from spring 2025.
