We had anticipated the arrival of a new Excess, the first official renderings of which have now been released as well as the name: theExcess 13 will be the new addition to the range of catamarans from the French shipyard that is part of the Beneteau Group.
The design this time has been entrusted to Studio Lombard, with the task of maintaining the family feeling of the range that until now has been signed VPLP and Patrick Le Quément.
Excess 13 – the project
“The project was simple and ambitious : to create an evolving and balanced catamaran that is reliable and offers good sensations, all combined with the comfort and interior volume that make the Excess so successful. The hull shapes, the weight, the composite structure, the layout, the ergonomics, the efficiency of the sail plan…
Everything in this new Excess is designed around the pleasure of easy sailing and comfortable living aboard,” h a explained Eric Levet, Lombard studio, architect of the new Excess 13 We could define it as a catamaran in some respects “Minimalist,” the designers in fact worked to reduce weight, with the goal of making the boat agile under sail, to do this smart choices were made:
“Less is more translates into a permanent quest for optimization.
On the Excess 13, for example, we installed a rainwater recovery system on the roof, which is then stored in a tank.
An efficient ventilation system limits the power of the installed air conditioner.
In the cabins, the doors have a dual function, both as a front door and as a closet door.
When one is open, the other is closed.
This may sound anecdotal.
But less matter and more passage space are small details that put together make a difference.” Hervé Piveteau, product manager of the Excess 13, explains. The deck is also interesting, with rather wide side transoms, thanks to a gathered deckhouse that leaves the side walkways free, on which the rigging lines also run.
Maneuvers that serve a 115 sq. m. sail plan, which is generous, thanks to a jib with a not inconsiderable overlap and a Square top mainsail.
Little has yet been seen of the interior, which will be offered in various layouts, with the galley area positioned close to the outside cockpit, pursuing the famous continuity between spaces that modern cruising catamarans always chase.
