We are now in the final stages of the Giro d’Italia 2024 with the fleet finishing the stage in San Benedetto del Tronto on July 15. First across the finish line was the Air Force team. Awards ceremony scheduled for the evening of July 17.
It was a long and exciting ascent of the Adriatic that took the fleet engaged in the Giro d’Italia a Vela 2024 from Vieste to San Benedetto del Tronto for the eighth leg of this signature Marina Militare Nastro Rosa Tour competition that closed on July 15. The top 10 men’s and women’s crews aboard the fast foil-equipped Bénéteau Figaro Class 3s battled it out throughout the course.
In the end, the standings of the so-called “Riviera delle Palme Stage” saw the Air Force team formed by Simeoli and Bertola take victory at the finish line, followed by the San Remo Yacht Club team with the pair Kuester and Bianchi in second place and the Italian Yacht Club team formed by Cupaioli and Micera who finished third in real time.
Waszp and Wingfoil and “eco” regattas also on the water.
Next, fourth place was won by the Deas team boat with Farci and Liconti aboard, while fifth went to the Guardia di Finanza team composed of Guido Antar Vigna and Filippo Baldassarri. Then again sixth position for the Royal Ocean Racing Club 1 team and seventh position for the Acone Associati team composed of D’Opici and Andrea Sironi. Closing the order of finish, the Navy team (Vano-Toraldo), followed by the City of Genoa team (Cima-Lolli) and the Royal Ocean Racing Club 2 team.
After the arrival of the offshore race in the afternoon of July 15, the Waszp and Wingfoil categories were unable to carry out the racing program due to the absence of wind, while as in every stage of the Marina Militare Nastro Rosa Tour, the “The Custodians Plastic Race,” a regatta with the purpose of constantly raising awareness about the protection of the sea and the land by ridding them of plastic, is staged on July 16.
Instead, the FIV Open Day is scheduled for July 17, while the Waszp and Wingfoil classes will feature new and exciting regattas where they will compete for stage wins. Also on the same day in the evening, the St. Benedict stage at the Regatta Village will conclude with an awards ceremony to the best crews.
