5 Classic Boats from 6.48 to 12.93 m
Today we have scouted for you five beautiful Classic Boats, ranging from 6.48 to 12.93 m. From one of the iconic boats of popular boating (and mind you, they even give it away!), to ultra-comfortable globetrotters. We present them in ascending order of length. A safe used car: guarantees the Sailing Newspaper!
Muscadet – 6.48 m – A myth boat as a gift
The first of the used boats for sale on our marketplace–is not for sale, but for gift. A Muscadet (6.48 x 2.26 m) awaits you in Porto Garibaldi (Ferrara) – free of charge: a small boat that made history. Designed in 1963 by Philippe Harlé, more than a thousand examples were launched until 1979 (when production ceased).
This is an “angular,” marine plywood cabin cruiser with a high freeboard, hanging rudder, generous cockpit and no-frills finish. It is a marine and safe boat, not surprisingly it has been used for years by the Caprera Sailing Center as a school boat, and generations of sailors have taken their first steps on it, and some have used it for a long time on the high seas.
Below deck, the Muscadet has a chart table squared off that doubles as a bench, a small tilting galley, and a sink. Two berths are found in the stern and two in the bow. These are separated by the concealed marine toilet under the mat.
This Muscadet gift, dated 1970, is number 20 produced by Cantiere Sartini, the same as the legendary Passatore. The boat is in overall good condition, needs some minor work but is able to sail perfectly.
Hallberg-Rassy 36 MK I – 10.87 m – Frers bestseller
We continue with the second of the boats used in the review. A pure-bred Classic Boat, as it is a Hallberg-Rassy 36 MK I (10.87 x 3.55 m). A regatta archistar (German Frers) and a boatyard that, on the other hand, cares little for the regatta. A combination destined for success: 606 hulls produced from 1989 to 2005.
It is definitely one of the Swedish shipyard’s most successful models, which has high second-hand prices, but has the advantage that it is easily traded. Balance is the strong point of this heavy displacement boat, compensated for by a generous sail plan, which allows it to juggle fairly well even in medium-light winds.
When the wind comes up, thanks to the stable shapes designed by Frers, it holds a lot of canvas, reducing terzarolo operations. The line is pleasing, with a particularly graceful transom and a well-profiled deckhouse. The medium-sized central cockpit is classic, perfectly sheltered by the fixed windowed splash guard, and the clear aft deck space is comfortable.
Inside are two double cabins forward and aft, a large forward toilet, and a living area with a dinette, set against a convertible sofa. To finish an L-shaped galley and charting placed on either side of the below-deck descent. Finishing and construction, as usual, impeccable.
The model we have selected for you, launched in 1991, is in excellent condition. The shipowner is considering either a total sale or a share to join the company.
Alpa 11.50 – 11.56 m – The Sparkman & Stephens Jewel
We remain in the Classic Boat by Giornale della Vela sphere, boats thus destined to increase in value over time. The third of the boats used under the lens today is an Alpa 11.50 (11.56 x 3.20 m).
For those who like the classic boat with sleek, clean lines, great leaps, and the prestige of the signature (Sparkman & Stephens), this is a tasty opportunity.
Relatively narrow beam, skeg, classic ’60s sloop rig at masthead. Hard to go to a more classic hull. The Alpa 11.50, put on the market in 1967, is a truly unremarkable hull, good boliniere and more marine than many current hulls. There is room on board for a forward cabin and a guard cabin, as well as bunks that can be made in the dinette by adapting sofas. The long spire also offers an advantage in terms of brightness, as well as ceiling height.
The boat for sale, visible at Marina di Pisa is from 1972 and has had only one owner since 1980. The aft and rigging are brand new, and the motorization is with 26-horsepower Faryman inboard.
Dufour Sortilege – 12.50 m – A classic signed Dufour
We continue with the fourth of the boats used in the review. A historic Classic Boat, in the Dufour framework. We are talking about a Sortilege (12.50 x 3.75 m).
Solid and marine, full of the original solutions typical of the designs signed by the great Michel Dufour, the Sortilege was the Ketch brother of the Dufour 41, a boat capable of going anywhere and appreciated by lovers of true bluewater. In ’71 she was the yard’s flagship; today she is a great option for smooth sailing on a 1970s classic.
The boat for sale is located in La Spezia and is from 1974. Equipped with every comfort (two cabins, two bathrooms) and as many as 12 sails, she is ready to sail.
Hallberg-Rassy 42 E – 12.93 m – The ultimate globetrotting boat
We close by returning to Sweden. The fifth of the used boats we offer is once again a Hallberg-Rassy and once again a Classic Boat. Specifically, a Hallberg-Rassy 42 E (12.93 x 3.78 m): designed by Olle Enderlein (hence the “E”) was built from 1980 to 1991.
It is perhaps the globetrotting bluewater by definition, a success story built from over 250 examples of which, so many have sailed far and wide, everywhere.
Designed by the ingenious Rassy and Enderlein, the 42 (E) was a must for those looking for a boat capable of anything, a hull as elegant, clean and comfortable as few. Initially produced only as a ketch, it later became a sloop toward the latter stages of production. Cult.
The model for sale is located in Nettuno (Rome) is from 1981 and is ketch armed. In excellent condition and always maintained to perfection over the years, it is equipped with every convenience.
