Plans for the summer? What if we told you cruise to Sardinia, complete with regatta and party in Costa Smeralda, would you come along? On Thursday, August 22, the VELA Cup makes a stop at Marina Cala dei Sardi, in the Gulf of Cugnana. A great opportunity to end the summer with family or friends. A celebration of sailing with lots of prizes, fun and dreamy scenery. Here’s everything you need to know if you want to join us for this great end-of-summer event!

 

Everything you need to know about the VELA Cup Costa Smeralda

WHERE AND WHEN. Thursday, August 22 at the Cala dei Sardi Marina in the Gulf of Cugnana, Sardinia.

WHO CAN PARTICIPATE. Any type of boat from 4 meters and up, no certicate required. First place wins, with divisions by homogeneous length classes, Cruising Boat (white sails) and Sport Boat (spi, gennaker, code 0) categories.

FREE MOORINGS. The Cala de’ Sardi Marina is offering free moorings to boats participating in the VELA Cup for the night of Wednesday, August 21 and Thursday, August 22. On the state-of-the-art floating docks, there are 140 berths available for boats up to 70 meters. Alternatively, you can anchor in the protected roadstead of the Gulf of Cugnana, with free shore transfer provided by NSS Charter. For info info@caladeisardi.it

DURATION AND ROUTE. The “Regatta” lasts no longer than three to four hours. The route is coastal: starting between Portisco and Porto Rotondo, heading northeast, circumnavigating the island of Soffi and Mortorio in an anti-clockwise direction, then turning back en route to Marina Cala dei Sardi. Arrival is at the entrance to the Gulf of Cugnana. 10-12 miles of sailing in a paradise that the whole world envies us.

THE EQUIPMENT. You do not need to be an experienced sailor to participate.

AWARDS. Prizes are awarded to the first in each class in the Cruising Boat and Sport Boat categories, the first Classic Boat in each length class. The overall winner in compensated time among all participants wins Leg Winner prize and also there are many raffle prizes for (almost) everyone. Special prizes for Beneteau and Lagoon boats participating in the regatta.
