Four days of events in the Sailing Village set up in Genoa’s Old Port serve as a preamble to the start of the Giro d’Italia a Vela 2024. On Tuesday, June 18, the fleet will set sail for the first leg to San Remo.
Everything is ready among the docks of Genoa’s Old Port for the imminent departure of one of the most anticipated sailing events of this summer season. We are talking about the Giro d’Italia a Vela, the highlight event of the Navy Pink Ribbon Tour 2024, which this year runs from June 15 to July 21. A beautiful, long and exciting regatta that involves circumnavigating the Belpaese on a 1,400-mile course along the Italian coast divided into 9 stages, from the city of Genoa and final arrival in Venice. The Giro d’Italia a Vela 2024 is organized by Difesa Servizi and Sailing Series International in cooperation with Enit – National Tourism Agency and the Italian Sailing Federation.
The Giro d’Italia a Vela fleet will engage the best men’s and women’s crews in 3 disciplines that represent the state of the art of sport sailing: Offshore, i.e., offshore racing aboard the very fast Bénéteau Figaro Class 3s equipped with foils, Inshore, i.e., trials between buoys under the coast with the acrobatic Waszp dinghies, and finally Board, i.e., sailboards with the brand new WingFoiling class.
In the Race Village between registration, fun times and VIP regattas
On Friday, June 14 in Genoa, the Sailing Village was inaugurated with the arrival of the first teams and the official opening of registration in a festive atmosphere culminating in the evening with a musical show by the “Super Disco Band” dedicated to the 70s/80s/90s. On Saturday, June 15 also in the Village Race is scheduled at 7:30 p.m. the European Championship match projection “Italy – Albania” with the intervention by video link of the Mayor of Durres Emiriana Sako. A time of fun and sharing celebrating the foreign leg of this Giro d’Italia a Vela that will touch down in the Albanian city.
Instead, the official opening ceremony of the Giro d’Italia a Vela 2024 is scheduled for Sunday, June 16, at 6:15 p.m., again in the Old Port of the “city of the lantern,” with all the crews lined up, event organizers and representatives of the Navy, Enit – National Tourism Agency and the FIV. More music will follow with a DJ set. The event program then continues on Monday, June 17 at 11 a.m. with the “VIP Regatta,” one of the novelties of this edition that will be replicated at each leg of the circumnavigation. Basically, 20 guests, including journalists, celebrities and enthusiasts, are given the opportunity to board the Bénéteau Figaro and experience the thrills of these “bolides” of the sea. This will be followed by the FIV Open Day with the opportunity for all curious people to try sailing for free and without stress.
Tuesday, June 18: off for the first leg
Rendezvous on Tuesday, June 18 for the official start of the first stage of the Giro d’Italia in Vela 2024. Destination San Remo along a route that sees the fleet moving away from the Ligurian coast with passage via Giraglia/Gorgona to Corsica. This is the first of 9 stops that in order will make stops in La Maddalena, Sardinia, Gaeta, Catanzaro, then Durres (Albania), then Vieste, San Benedetto del Tronto, Chioggia and finally Venice where scheduled for July 20 will be the grand awards ceremony.
We remind everyone that this year you can be part of this fantastic event and, for one or more stages of the Giro d’Italia a Vela 2024, board a Bénéteau Figaro Class 3 becoming an integral part of the crew.
