Safety first. And to be safe with one’s boat, cruising and racing, first and foremost the crew must be calm. Therefore, one of the key items to have on board is a quality life raft that has maximum efficiency and practicality. In case there is a need, of course.
But not all life rafts are the same, and above all, in our opinion, one should not skimp on safety by following specific regulations, which, in many cases, are not prescribed by law, or in the case of sailing not too far from the coast are inadequately prescribed.
We recommend that you always choose a deep-sea life raft because they are more complete and, most importantly, safe. To learn all about a life raft, read our guide here.
Our test on a 12-meter
We tested, even in strong winds and rough seas at the 151-mile 2024 regatta, on the 12-meter Cheyenne (a Rodman JV42), the 8-person model from one of the leading companies, Arimar.
The advantages of Arimar rafts , an Italian company owned by Lalizas, a world leader in nautical accessories and safety, are that they are very light and high-performance, easy to stow and to use in extreme cases.
Our test, related to the practicality of the product, and not open raft (there was no need!), was conducted on a 12-meter boat with 8 people on board.
The model tested was a top model, the
Arimar ISO Atlantic L<24
with soft case, which has the advantage of being the lightest and most complete on the market. It weighs only 38 kilograms and has compact dimensions of 650x320x390 mm, but has everything a raft suitable for navigation even on the high seas must have.
The Arimar ISO Atlantic follows the strict ISO standard that reads “liferafts designed for long voyages or cruises when gusts of wind and exceptional wave height are expected” to which it is fully compliant. One of the special features of this model is that it contains thermal floor, interior and exterior light, retractable awning and 4 stabilizers.
The raft the Arimar ISO Atlantic L is available in versions from 4 to 12 people, not only in soft suitcase versions but also with hard containers. Find the full range of Arimar rafts here.
All the security with Lalizas
Lalizas, owner of Arimar, offers the necessary compendium for safety on board, from life lines to flares and fires, from MOB (man over board) systems to life jackets, you can find the whole range here.
Lalizas transfers to recreational boating all theexperience gained on commercial vessels where it is a leader in equipment. This is no small thing.
