Sofia Giondi’s Wanderlust celebrates European title

Surprise ending, but not too much, at the J/70 European Championship of Cala Galera, with the continental title going to a Corinthian crew, that of Wanderlust Of the young owner and helmswoman Sofia Giondi. Wanderlust placed fourth in the Open standings, but first European boat, as the top three places in the overall standings included two American boats and one Brazilian boat.

European J/70 – Consistency Pays Off

Surprisingly but not too much we said, because in a class like the J/70s, with a European with over 80 boats on the water, perhaps the victory of a Corinthian crew was not expected, but rankings in hand Sofia Giondi’s team, which includes Luca Tubaro, Matteo Morellina and Filippo Baldassari, was the most consistent in the rankings in an event where the most highly rated teams had great difficulty in finding continuity of results. Suffice it to say that Wanderlust’s best partial result was a fourth place, yet it always remained in the top 20 while more favored teams on paper stumbled through “disastrous” regattas.

Behind Wanderlust are the British of Max Clapp’s Jeepster, another Corinthian crew, third are the Spaniards of owner Luis Albert’s Patakin.
