Already several crews have decided to register for the VELA Cup in Brindisi, scheduled for next Saturday in Salento waters. A diverse fleet of boats for a weekend of celebration and lots of fun. For those coming from outside, there is free mooring offered by the Brindisi Marina, and for those with annual berths, VELA Cup registration is free!
Just a week away now and everything is ready in Brindisi to welcome the fleet of sailors who will take part on June 1 in the VELA Cup Brindisi, the third leg of the most fun racing circuit ever! It will be two days of celebration, racing and lots of fun to spend with family and friends in an atmosphere of pure fun, relaxation and sharing.
Already some 30 crews have registered for the event, and among them there is a little bit of everything: avid racers, such as groups of friends, and family crews. Let’s start with the locals, based at the Brindisi Marina; for them, registration for the VELA Cup is free! There are boats like Birba, Riccardo Gismondi’s Beneteau Oceanis 40, and Cathur One, Giuseppe Bottacci’s Beneteau Oceanis Clipper 323.
Special mention to Blu Fantà sia, Federico Gagliano’s First 40.7, which will have on board a special crew of teenagers attending competitive Optimist and Laser courses, accompanied by their federal instructor Mauro De Felice. An opportunity to strengthen team spirit and convey to the very young the values of the VELA Cup, which is not just a competition but a time to share the passion for sailing and the sea, combined with the desire to have fun all together.
Then there are owners who are big fans of the sea and sailing, such as those from the Classic Boats. In addition to competing for their category (Cruising or Sport Boat) and grouping (based on length) they also compete for the special prize dedicated to those boats over 25 years old. These include boats such as Idee Fixe, Roberto De Milito’s 1998 Dufour 32 Classic; Scacciacani, a mythical 1974 Dufour Arpège by Giulio Giovannetti; Elizabeth, a 1981 Taos Kelani 41 by Antonio Arcadio Antonaci; or Tridon, a 1986 Barberis Show 42 by Pietro Ivona. And don’t think they are not competitive! These include Flash, Andrea Milizia’s legendary Cookson Farr 39, winner of numerous IMS regattas worldwide, as well as winner of last year’s VELA Cup Brindisi.
The VELA Cup Brindisi, scheduled for Saturday, June 1, will last about 3-4 hours, and the race course will be set up on a coastal course. The regatta formula moreover is very simple: whoever finishes first wins, with divisions by homogeneous length classes in the Cruising Boat and Sport Boat categories. The overall winner in compensated time will be awarded the Leg Winner prize, given to the best performance, regardless of size. Other rich prizes will also be raffled off, including a portable nautical gps, a multifunction knife, an outboard motor, and more. The great thing is that everyone can win something!
