Two, indeed three not-to-be-missed appointments await you at the
Marina Cala de’ Medici
this weekend. The VELA Cup Toscana is a bit special, because in addition to the classic regatta, Saturday night features the Sailor of the Year award ceremony and Sunday doubles up with Triton Cup, the first regatta to promote Natura 2000 marine and coastal sites, promoted by the LIFE A-MAR NATURA2000 project.
Arrival at the dock is from Friday. You pick up your mascone numbers and rich gift bags(find out what’s in them and what you can win here) and in the evening dinner on the boat or at Marina Cala de’ Medici’s new restaurant: the Bahìa de Medici! Would you prefer a beer and sandwich? We also have that, in addition to the Fuxy Bar, there will be food trucks on the dock with typical Tuscan beer and food: Mordi e Godi, “Zero40” craft brewery.
On Saturday wake up, breakfast and briefing at 9:30 am. The start of the regatta is at 11 a.m., so there is plenty of time to get the boat ready and wake up the crew, even the sleepy ones. The regatta is coastal, and lasts no more than three to four hours.
In the afternoon, all at the dock for the Sailor of the Year award ceremony, an opportunity to meet and chat with the larger than sailing as Gianni Cariboni, the wizard of hydraulics and hydraulics applied to sailing, Beppe Veirana, the sailing influencer who has more followers than Luna Rossa, the finalists for the award Luca Rosetti (winner of the Mini Transat), Matteo Polli (the most successful boat designer of the past 10 years), Marco Trombetti (fresh from a round-the-world trip on his Swan 65 Translated9) to name but a few. Followed by the VELA Cup awards ceremony, with lots of raffle prizes, music and food for all!
But it didn’t end there! After the evening revelry, the domenica doubles. We’ll be back on the water with the Triton Cup, the first regatta to promote Natura 2000 marine and coastal sites, promoted by the LIFE A-MAR NATURA2000 project. Same spirit as VELA Cup and lots of prizes for everyone. Thanks to the constant efforts of professionals who work enthusiastically on issues of environmental and scientific culture, we will discover the riches that our coasts and seas offer us.
Through clear, simple and innovative communication, while maintaining the rigor of scientific popularization, the people of LIFE A-MAR NATURA2000 will engage us firsthand in sea protection and marine biodiversity conservation activities. Not only that, the Triton Cup will also be an opportunity to promote a SEA TERAPY project that aims to introduce the sport of sailing to different categories of people, including those from weaker and more fragile groups, in order to share their passion and love for the sea with everyone. To conclude, Sunday afternoon awards ceremony at 4 p.m. and then everyone goes home.
