As the online Velier of the Year voting tussle has concluded(more than 34,000 preferences you awarded to your favorites), the party to which you are all invited is approaching. You are all invited to the big celebration of the Sailor of the Year 2024
Mark this date: Saturday, May 25, starting at 5:30 p.m., at the Marina in Cala de’ Medici. The Sailor of the Year Festival is not to be missed.
The protagonists
The location is perfect: in the heart of the Tuscan coast, in one of the most modern and state-of-the-art marinas in Italy. The parterre de roi is assured. The greatest Italian sailors are waiting for you: sportsmen, sailors, designers, young talents, innovators. Who will have won you will find out just Saturday in a big “show” Oscar night style, hosted by our journalists Rachele Vitello and Mauro Giuffrè.
You will be able to celebrate your idols, but also chat with them, take a selfie, and get to know their stories in person, perhaps at the aperitif/refreshments that will follow the awards ceremony. One of the names present we can already reveal to you: Gianni Cariboni, the world wizard of hydraulics applied to sailboats, the inventor who changed the way of sailing with his insights.
It is no coincidence that we decided to give him the Lifetime Achievement Epic Sailor of the Year award, in the year Cariboni celebrates 40 years in business.
You’ll find the likes of Mini Transat winner Luca Rosetti(to date leader of the Sailor of the Year rankings), sailing influencer Beppe Veirana, and many, many more…
In short, you cannot miss it. The event is free and open to everyone, no one excluded.
Idea: come to the Sailor of the Year sailing with the VELA Cup!
There is one more reason to participate in the great celebration of the Sailor of the Year 2024. At the same time, the Marina di Cala de’ Medici is hosting the VELA Cup Toscana / Triton Cup (May 25-26), the second leg of the most crowded regatta/festival circuit.
You will not only see great sailors (who knows, you might even find some of the Sailors of the Year racing!), but also beautiful boats and breathe in a unique atmosphere. If you have your boat nearby, sign up for the VELA Cup and come celebrate the great sailors by boat: berths are free for the first 20 boats that come from outside; for the other “latecomers,” however, there are ultra-advantageous agreements.
