Special Ports 2024
Special Ports 2024

With a total of more than 112 thousand berths, Italy is confirmed as a top destination for European and world nautical tourism. But if we move from quantity to the quality of the offer of “hospitality” on the sea, we find that there are only 88 tourist marinas equipped exclusively for recreation. The challenge is to increase and improve more and more ports to generate economic growth for the whole industry.

According to the most recent report released by the study office of Confindustria Nautica which provides market trends, good prospects also emerge from the nautical tourism sector for 2024 for companies in the sector, including marina, charter and shipbuilding: in fact, according to analysts, it seems that the year that has just begun will be even better than the previous one. Among the factors contributing to this success is, for example, the confirmed global leadership in Italian superyacht production with 600 models under construction, totaling more than 22,000 linear meters, representing an absolute record of 51.4 percent of world orders. Regarding the charter world also, at the moment the current sales results see even more weeks booked than 12 months ago, but more importantly, the change in the average value of the week sold is stable or increasing for three out of four respondents. Increasingly, in short, it is clear how the sea today represents a formidable resource to enable the country to look forward to growth in tourism as well.

This was also finally understood by the institutions that last year-end, for the first time in Italy, approved the so-called“Sea Plan” for the three-year period 2023-2025: it is a strategic document that aims to indicate the unified direction within the national maritime policy, also regarding the tourism part of the nautical world and in particular the world of marinas and pleasure craft. In fact, the “Plan” itself explains how today the Italian marina system needs to move in the same direction in order to compete in international markets and thus respond to the many challenges of the travel sector, energy transition to digital transition. A path to be taken by starting to recognize the proper emphasis on the specificity of the tourist port as an “industrial” sector capable of supporting the economic and social development of the country’s tourism, perhaps succeeding in attracting important investments, both domestic and international. In fact, today it is clear to all those involved in vacation and incoming that precisely the development of recreational boating would be a golden opportunity for Italy’s tourism economy. A perfect strategy, as remarked by analysts of the “Sea Plan” to bring new investments, jobs and as well as stable revenues for the state coffers. Italy is firmly in the rankings among the three most desirable nations in the world,“Made in Italy” dominates the luxury sector, and its 8,000 km of coastline contains the most iconic locations in the Mediterranean. We just need to keep tourists along the Boot, welcoming them to the best of our ability in top-notch facilities.
