The new 28-meter maxi Swan 88, the first hybrid model from the Finnish shipyard based in Pietarsaari, touched the water for the first time. Developed from the outset to offer a hybrid electric propulsion option in collaboration with Torqeedo, DreamCatcher represents only the first step toward electrification of the entire Swan range. This vessel will soon be followed by a second one in a few days.
The first Swan 88 hybrid
DreamCatcher is the first Swan 88 with a hybrid engine. A project that sees the continued cooperation of Germán Frers for naval architecture, Misa Poggi for interior design, and Lucio Micheletti, of Micheletti + Partners, for exterior styling.
An interesting detail is the stern, with steps that invite guests from the cockpit to the beach club. The transom flips over, creating an island where you can relax and sunbathe in the roadstead. Below this there is also a garage for the tender.
With no shortage of space on board, Swan 88 has 2 or 3 guest cabins, an owner’s suite forward and 2 crew cabins aft. Each cabin is equipped with a private bathroom.
Designed to offer the opportunity to reduce operating costs, Swan 88 fully meets the 24-meter waterline length limit so that it complies with the less restrictive MCA charter regulations.
A performance bluewater optimized for on-board comfort
An uncompromising cruiser with a racing soul, Swan 88’s appendages are optimized for cruising, with a standard 4-meter keel and optional reduced, telescoping or racing keel. The double rudder blades, in addition to reducing draft and allowing you to get closer to shore, improve the balance of the hull when sailing.
“This new Swan 88 is an evolution of the previous models, but on this occasion we carried out an ex novo study of balance, performance, rigging and sail shape,” are the words of Germà n Frers.“Based on the results obtained from these studies, we designed the hull.” As a true bluewater, the Swan 88 is designed to offer smooth and comfortable sailing in even the most difficult conditions, with an optimized heeling angle of no more than 20 degrees.
The maxi yacht will make its world debut at the Cannes Yachting Festival, Sept. 10-15, and the Monaco Yacht Show, Sept. 25-28.
