5 used boats from 9.99 to 11.42 m
Today we have scouted for you five good used boats from 9.99 to 11.42 m. They are “good” for different types of owners. There is the right model for those who like to have fun sailing but do not disdain comfort, the one for the pure cruiser, those for “globetrotting” owners, and even the one for lovers of old IOR glories. We present them in ascending order of length. A safe used car: guarantees the Sailing Newspaper!
Elan 340 – 9.99 – Humphreys’ natant.
Let’s start with the first of the used boats for sale. An Elan 340 (10.45 x 3.46 m) that is a vessel because the hull length is 9.99 m. A truly elegant ten-meter yacht, born from the pencil of British designer Rob Humphreys, who succeeded in creating a yacht with a compact but not massive line, modern but not extreme, proportionate and elegant on the water.
Comparing it with its predecessor Elan 333, the 340 model has about 60 cm more waterline length, which translates into better performance in medium winds as well as in power sailing.
Given the same displacement and sail area, the design ratios do not change much and define a hull with equally sporty, well-sailed characteristics and high form stability.
Very serviceable in all walking areas, it has a particularly clean layout thanks to the grille on the deckhouse, which made it possible to both conceal all the halyards and to flush the five hatches and two handrails.
The distribution of space follows that of the Elan 333, with some small but significant improvements in the size of the berths and forward cabin now equipped with ample storage. For the furniture, with flush, frameless doors, a light-colored wood such as Aningre was preferred, while a dark wenge was used for the dunnage.
The model under review can be seen in Naples and is in excellent condition.
Hanse 350 – 10.59 m – Easy and convenient!
Let’s move on to the second of the boats used in the review. If you like comfortable cruising, this Hanse 350 (10.59 x 3.55 m), designed by Judel Vrolijk, is just for you.
From the smaller 320, Hanse Shipyard’s 35-foot model differs markedly by presenting design solutions reminiscent of the German shipyard’s larger models. The boat remained in production from 2008 to 2010
A less squared-off deckhouse with more graceful lines, a deck plan the maneuvers deferred to the cockpit, and provision for self-tacking in the headsail make it really easy to steer even with a small crew. Customizable interior layout that was offered with two or three cabins. Good height of rooms that are rationally distributed 0.
The model you find on our marketplace is from 2009 and is in excellent condition. The version is the three berth version, powered by 30-horsepower inboard, equipped to the hilt and with brand new 2024 sails. The boat has always been kept on Lake Maggiore in fresh water.
Hallberg Rassy 36 MK II – 10.87 m – Evergreen
We continue with one of the historic Classic Boats by Giornale della Vela, or used boats destined to grow in value over time. We are talking about a great classic of safe cruising with proven build quality. A Hallberg-Rassy 36 MKII (10.87 x 3.55 m).
Redesigned by German Frers in 1989 (and remaining in production until 2005!), the Hallberg Rassy 36 was produced in more than 600 examples between MKI and MKII. It is certainly one of the Swedish shipyard’s most successful models. Balance is the strong point of this heavy displacement boat, compensated for by a generous sail plan, which allows it to juggle fairly well even in medium-light winds.
When the wind comes up, thanks to the stable shapes designed by Frers, it holds a lot of canvas, reducing terzarolo operations. The line is pleasing, with a particularly graceful transom and a well-profiled deckhouse. The medium-sized central cockpit is classic, perfectly sheltered by the fixed windowed splash guard, and the clear aft deck space is comfortable.
Inside are two double cabins forward and aft, a large forward toilet, and a living area with a dinette, set against a convertible sofa. To finish an L-shaped galley and charting placed on either side of the below-deck descent. Finishing and construction, as usual, impeccable.
The model for sale is from 1992, maniacally kept: usually these boats have high second-hand prices, but in this case it is a “sustainable” investment because it is a 50/50 takeover.
Feeling 36 – 11.10 m – What spaces!
We remain on the 36-foot size, with a particular boat, French style, equipped with a movable daggerboard. A Feeling 36 (11.10 x 3.62 m), in production from 2001 to 2005.
In keeping with the tradition of Kirié shipyard’s products, the Feeling 36 is also built with careful craftsmanship, especially the fiberglass workmanship, and is offered with either an integral or fixed moving centreboard. The design is by Michel Joubert, the interiors are by Patrick Roseo. Joubert chose a hull with high form stability and very full sections in the bow.
The boat then sails well with full canvas, even in high winds, and remains docile at the helm. The deck does not have a particularly spacious cockpit, but it is comfortable due to the widening at the rudder wheel.
The interior is offered in two versions, with two or three cabins and one bathroom. Excellent square dimensions with two sofas, one L-shaped, facing each other. The kitchen, a toilet and chart table are at the foot of the descent.
The boat for sale, visible in Marano Lagunare (Udine), is from 2005. It mounts a new 50-horsepower engine and is in perfect condition.
New Optimist 38 – 11.42 m – In the Sign of Dick Carter
We close with the fifth and last of the used boats for sale on our classifieds market. A great classic.
The New Optimist 38 (11.42 x 3.39 m) made for IOR third class was born from the pencil of Dick Carter as a cutter-rigged sloop after the experience gained with the Rabbit and Tina boats that won major regattas in the 1960s.
In 1967 and 1968 he won the One Ton Cup. Built in series initially by Cantieri Sail Boat of Bologna (future Cantiere del Pardo) in the early 1970s and later by Cantieri Navali of Fiumicino. Only a few specimens are currently present in Italy.
The model under review was completely refitted between 2021 and 2023.
