After last year’s great success,
from May 24 to 26, the VELA Cup returns to Marina Cala de’ Medici
, in the heart of the Etruscan Coast and in front of the beautiful Tuscan Archipelago. A second edition that fills up and doubles, even triples! In the weekend leading up to the 151 Miglia, in addition to being the second leg of the VELA Cup, the circuit of regattas open to all boats and sailors (sports and non-sports), on Saturday, after the awards ceremony the champions of Italian sailing will take the stage, with the awarding of the Sailor of the Year prize, the Oscar of Italian sailing. There is eating, drinking and dancing, and if you still have energy and desire to go boating on Sunday, there is the Triton Cup – Natura 2000 Regatta. Two regattas, for a weekend to be framed by the scents and flavors of Tuscany and the crystal clear waters of Castiglioncello!
VELA Cup Toscana is the regatta for everyone!
The VELA Cup, you know by now, is a regatta for everyone. The formula is always the same, simple and remarkably effective: a sailing competition among boats of all sizes and shapes, with no age restrictions, no bureaucracy or technical complications, with rankings drawn up by length. First come, first served wins. And in the evening, party on the dock with an awards ceremony. There are those who participate in the Sport Boat category, using non-inferred sails such as spi, gennaker and code 0, and those who just want to have fun with friends and family, in the Cruising Boat category, with white sails. There are special prizes for those boats, including standard and fiberglass boats, at least 25 years old, the Classic Boats, and for the most beautiful boat in each stage (Elegant Boat). Are you afraid to make last? In addition to the “merit” prizes at the VELA Cup you also win if you have a little luck, thanks to the
prestigious raffle prizes
offered by our partners.
Free moorings for those from outside
On the occasion of the VELA Cup Toscana, mooring at Marina Cala de’ Medici is free all weekend. With its 650 berths from 8 to 36 meters, the Marina is located on a picturesque stretch of Tuscan coastline between Rosignano and Castiglioncello. The pearl of the Tyrrhenian Sea and vacation destination of important figures in the world of cinema, such as Alberto Sordi, Guido Mannari and Marcello Mastroianni, Castiglioncello offers one of the most beautiful views of the entire coastline. Unique are the sunsets among nature, crystal clear waters and the beach that can be seen from Quercetano Bay.
Isn’t that enough for you? Sunday is the Triton Cup!
If the VELA Cup isn’t enough for you, we’re going back out to sea together with our friends from the Triton Cup on Sunday, with an even better goal! We are going to discover the beauty of our seas while having fun in a boat. Sponsored by the LIFE A-MAR NATURA2000 project, the Triton Cup is the first regatta to promote Natura 2000 marine and coastal sites. Thanks to the constant efforts of professionals who work enthusiastically on issues of environmental and scientific culture, we will discover the riches that our coasts and seas offer us. Through clear, simple and innovative communication, while maintaining the rigor of scientific popularization, the people of LIFE A-MAR NATURA2000 will engage us firsthand in sea protection and marine biodiversity conservation activities. Not only that, the Triton Cup will also be an opportunity to promote a SEA TERAPY project that aims to introduce the sport of sailing to different categories of people, including those from weaker and more fragile groups, in order to share their passion and love for the sea with everyone.
LIFE A-MAR NATURA2000 is a project co-funded by the European Union and the parks-Tuscan Archipelago National Park, Cinque Terre National Park and Asinara National Park-that has Federparchi – Europarc, Triton Research, LIPU and Fundación Biodiversidad working in partnership.
