The (extra)ordinary passion stories of the Most Voted Sailor of the Year

As we expected, nominations and self-nominations for the “Most Voted” category of the 2024 Sailor of the Year came in by the dozens.

Keep telling us your stories!

You immediately understood the spirit of our initiative. You don’t need to be an Olympic champion, to have lapped Cape Horn ten times, to tell your own story of (extra)ordinary passion. And don’t be shy, keep doing it! Also because, as we explain later, you win a super prize!

In the meantime, let’s peruse the scoreboard. of those who, to date, have been (or have been) nominated as Sailor of the Year Most Voted: there are well-known names (Beccaria, Fornaro, Rosetti, Chiavarini, Biscontini, for example, have been nominated by fans) but mostly stories of “off-the-radar” sailors who have stories worth knowing: the owners of Aleissima, for example, who in order to have the boat of their dreams built it. Or

, a sailor with an “expired boat license after age 40” who has lived for sailing.

(Doing this is very easy, you will have to give us the candidate’s last and first name, upload his or her photo, the reason for the nomination, and your email. You can nominate or self-nominate not only a person, but also a boat!).

How The Most Voted Sailor of the Year Works.

At the end of April we will present all the candidates for the 2024 edition of the Sailor of the Year powered by Raymarine. There will be 50 of them, divided into 5 categories: Sailor of the Year, Innovation, Passion, Young and Owner (plus those in the Most Voted category, of course), and you can vote for them on the Sailor of the Year website from April 30 until May 20. Meanwhile, one date you can mark down: May 25, Marina di Cala de’ Medici. There, in a beautiful location, the Evening of Champions will be staged, where all the winners will be revealed. You are also invited!

All sailors nominated by the public will compete in the parallel category “Sailor of the Year – Most Voted,” and the most voted will win a splendid prize, as well as being honored on stage at the Evening of Champions!

You can submit your application to us until April 24, 2024. The editorial staff will validate it immediately and make it public. Voting in the category of “The Sailor of the Year – Most Voted” will open at the end of April, at the same time as voting for the Sailor of the Year.

Should a candidate you indicate is already on the “panel” of those selected in the five categories of the Journal of Sailing? No worries, he will compete in one of the five categories of the Sailor of the Year (Sailor of the Year, Innovation, Passion, Young and Owner) and you can vote for him normally!
