VELA Cup Liguria is for everyone!
Whether yours is acruising vessel, always loaded with provisions, or a racing one, without the bathroom door to be lighter, the SAIL Cup Is a regatta for everyone. As always, you do not need a set of racing sails to participate, Mainsail and jib are enough to enter the Cruising Boat category, and, for those who are more sporty and want to use spi, gennaker or code 0, there is also the Sport Boat category.
At the VELA Cup Liguria (almost) everyone can win something: there are prizes for first place category finishers, most beautiful boats and Classic Boats (at least 25 years old). There is also the prize for last place and for the boat that made the best performance (Leg Winner). But at the VELA Cup you don’t just win at sea, you also need a bit of luck, thanks to the numerous raffle prizes offered by our partners Moby, IBSA, Honda, HiNelson, Garmin, Leatherman, ACSI Sailing, Veneziani Yachting, Plastimo, YachtIngBond, AMBECO. Just think that 40% of all contestants receive an award!
Do you have a boat that is at least 25 years old? It is a Classic Boat!
“My boat is too old to participate in a regatta!” There is no such thing as an old boat: it only becomes a Classic Boat. If you think your boat is not performing as well as it used to, don’t worry. In addition to the usual division into Sport Boat categories, for the more sporty who want to use spi, gennaker or code 0, and Cruising Boat, for those who want to have fun with family or friends and sail white sails, at the VELA Cup there is a dedicated ranking for boats at least 25 years old, even if they are built in series or fiberglass.
But what boats are we talking about? Certainly of those built since 1967, when with the advent of fiberglass as a construction material, they are built in series. Since that year, finally, even in boating, boats are no longer like an original painting, one different from the other. There are more boats all the same. Mass production is born.
Why at least 25 years old? We have defined the period in which a used boat can bear the designation of a classic boat using the parameter defined by the charter of FIVA (International Federation of Older Vehicles) created to classify and preserve the historical interest of cars and, in general, moving objects. Criteria that also fit well with boats.
Thus, they are the mass-produced fiberglass boats of the first generation, those built between 1967 and 1999. In short, after 25 years even a boat can be called of historical value. They are not classic boats, built in one piece and almost always made of wood, they are Classic Boats, just as in the world of cars, which precisely is divided into “classic cars” and “classic or historic cars.”
