The story of Cheyenne, or how to give a second life to a glorious 2003 racing boat and make her a true cruiser-racer under the banner of easy sailing.
A “real” story
Cheyenne is a special boat with a unique past. Only seven were built, the model is called Rodman JV42, is 11.98 long, 3.50 wide, and fishes 2.55 m. The idea originated in 2002 from a prestigious name, the then King of Spain Juan Carlos of Bourbon, an excellent sailor and passionate racer.
The project was entrusted to the king’s trusted man, Pedro Campos, who had the boat designed by the most successful designers of the day, the Germans from the Judel&Vrolijk firm.
The boats are built in Spain by the Rodman shipyard. Thanks to the experience of Campos and the German/Dutch designers, a state-of-the-art boat was born in 2003, even in design that will prove relevant even today, in 2024.
Cheyenne’s second life
Her current owner’s choice was to revive her as an “easy sailing” cruiser racer by radically rebuilding her and updating her with all available, state-of-the-art technologies and amenities.
Completely new is the deck plan, as well as the interior. All structures have been reviewed and checked. The helm wheel has òlascaito space for a traditional and more functional tiller (raised it frees up a lot of cockpit space).
All the refit work, however, was done to keep the design philosophy of the Spanish twelve-footer intact, and in fact in the end the displacement,6,500 kg, is the same as that of the Cheyenne in pure racing version.
All the details of this story of passion for sailing, the real thing, can be found in the video…
