Among the first tasks to do when preparing for a return to boating, which usually coincides with the spring season, is definitely checking the tender. Especially if you have a boat with a few years on its back, you may find it in poor condition, especially if-for various reasons-you have not been able to keep it in optimal condition during the winter, perhaps sheltered and indoors.
The tender is an essential accessory on board, which is why it is essential to change it if it is not in good condition. But not only that. Changing the tender may also be the right opportunity to decide to finally get rid of the old outboard motor, which sometimes struggles to start, leaks, and jams. Fortunately, the major outboard motor manufacturers have been thinking for some time about creating a dedicated range for those who want to buy both a tender and an outboard in one fell swoop. This solution is called a package, and in addition to the simple (but no less important) financial savings of buying two products from one supplier, it brings with it several advantages.
Why buy a package tender?
First of all, interacting with only one vendor means that in case of problems, be they with the tender or the engine, your contact person will always be the same. In addition, you will be able to study at the purchase stage the best coupling among those proposed directly by the manufacturer, without running the risk of buying an over- or undersized engine compared to the size of your tender. Indeed, you will be assured, since these are “packages” designed by those who produce them, that you will definitely make the right choice. Among manufacturers offering this option, Suzuki’s range is particularly wide.
We find the Suzukino by Geniuss line, with three models of 250, 285, and 290 cm combined with an 8, 15, and 20 hp outboard, respectively. And then we find the three ranges of the Suzumar line, with inflatable, fiberglass or aluminum dunnage.
The one best suited for the sailboat dinghy is definitely the inflatable line, with lengths ranging from 230 to 265 cm that can be combined with engines from 2.5 to 6 hp. In contrast, the models in the other lines have larger lengths, from 270 to 420 cm, and the matching engines range from 8 to 20 hp.
