In fact, we selected ten prestigious 13- to 15-meter models of “Classic Boats of Historical Value by Giornale della Vela” by comparing their current second-hand value with historical increase.The result? A “cult” Classic Boat is always a bargain.

Classic Boat Cult: 4 classic boats that are the real deal

Exactly as in the automotive and real estate sectors, it may happen that a used car is worth more than new. Equally, in the very same areas, even a purchase to restore can be the real deal. And so it is with the Classic Boats. To exemplify, we chose 10 Cult models from among the 300 “Classic Boats of Historical Value by Giornale della Vela” models and, for each of these, developed a graphic model to superimpose the values, exemplifying the whole. So the answer is simple: a Classic Boat is worth more! And, more specifically, it sees its value increase by 10 to 15 percent, depending on its state of preservation. But, if in excellent condition, even more, up to +40%! In short, maintaining and refitting really turns into a bargain.

Classic Boat Cult: When used boats are a bargain

How does the re-evaluation system work? Each boat has its own story. Broadly speaking, however, we can identify two junctures. On the one hand, there are boats that have already received an increase in value on the used market, a characteristic for which the increase in historical valuation affects less. On the other hand, however, there are cases where a model still has a low valuation on the used front, a context in which the increase will therefore be higher. In short, if you are looking for a purchase, you have to sniff out a bargain!

There is, however, another important parameter to take into account: some boats have been in production for more years than others. Consequence therefore dictates that there are more pronounced price swings in favor of specific or sometimes newer models. As an example, the Hallberg Rassy 382 remained in production from 1984 to 1995 and over 100 were built. Given the upgrades, wear and tear, and improvements over the years, it makes sense that newer models would also be more expensive. Hallberg Rassy; 13.22 x 3.95 m; Germán Frers | Production 181 units; 1990-2001

The Hallberg Rassy 42 F, in its Mk-i and Mk-ii versions, is perhaps the Hallberg Rassy par excellence, the first marriage between the shipyard and the skilled hands of the Argentine genius, Germán Frers. A pure bluewater is born, a comfortable, safe, unstoppable hull. And it is elegant, pleasant and fast as well. An enlightened project.

SWAN 44 (S&S)

Nautor Swan; 13.41 x 3.83 m; Sparkman & Stephens | Production: 76 units; 1972-1975

In 1972 Sparkman & Stephens signed the Swan 44. In retrospect, it is one of their best projects done by Nautor Swan. Elegant, marine and fast, it is a hull made of a dough all its own, very fast. Just look at the rankings of contemporary rallies, he is the frontrunner. The secret? Apt balances and flawless water lines.

Today, Classic Boat’s historical value significantly increases its listing. In fact, a model in perfect condition and preservation can be worth up to 220,000 euros. One in fair/good condition gains 20,000 over the pre-historic value listing, 185 vs. 205,000.

X-442

X-Yachts; 13.5 x 4.13 m; Niels Jeppesen | Production: 127 units; 1993-2003

One of Jeppesen’s 1990s Classics, the X-442 was the third performance-cruiser designed and produced by the brand, a hull that was luxurious and comfortable, though simultaneously flawless on the performance front. Qualitatively top-notch and with well-thought-out spaces, it became the trendsetter for 40-footers of the period.

It now significantly increases its listing, enhanced by the Classic Boat historical value. A model in perfect condition and preservation can be worth up to 205,000 euros today. One in fair/good condition gains 13,000 over the pre-historic value listing, 193 vs. 180,000.

Beneteau; 13.59 x: 4.27 m; Bruce Farr | Production: 200 units; 1992

The three steps to enhance your Classic Boat
