The RAN 630, the “long” Tyrrhenian Sea race is back, departing April 24

Presented in Florence the 2024 edition of the RAN 630, the longest offshore sailing race in the Mediterranean born in 2018. The 630-mile route starts in Livorno (Tuscany), passes Porto Cervo (in Sardinia) and the Faraglioni of Capri in Campania and then ends again in Livorno.
This year the start of the regatta-a valid round for the Italian Offshore Championship with coefficient 3-is scheduled for sunset on April 24 from Livorno, with a subsequent night sailing with a full moon. The Yacht Club Costa Smeralda and the Yacht Club Capri will verify the crews’ passage at their respective gates on the picturesque course. The Operations Center of the Navy’s Naval Squadron Headquarters will monitor the progress of the regatta, thus ensuring the safe conduct of the event for competitors
The seventh edition of the RAN 630 was officially presented at Officine Gullo in Florence, in the presence of many owners who will take part in the regatta, Admiral Commandant of the Naval Academy Lorenzano Di Renzo, FIV Zone II President Andrea Leonardi, and UVAI Vice President Filippo Calandriello. Also present were officers and members of the0 Livorno Yacht Club, including President Gian Luca Conti, and several sailors including Tommaso Chieffi and Andrea Fantini, who were present in ’92 aboard the Moro di Venezia with which they won the Louis Vuitton Cup.
What boats and what prizes there will be at RAN 630
Several boats from Italian and foreign military corps will participate in the RAN 630, competing for the Gold Medal for Military Valor Trophy Lieutenant Commander Saverio Marotta. Among the Navy boats confirmed to start are theIMX 40 Antares and the 1983 First Class IOR Gemini, designed by Andrea Vallicelli. There are currently more than twenty boats registered-including Lunatika, the SunFast 3600 led in doubles by the Baroni-Miglietti crew that won the 2023 edition-and several crews are finalizing their entries.
The first crew to pass through the Porto Cervo gate will be awarded the One Ocean Trophy, while the first boat to reach the Faraglioni of Capri is awarded the Land of the Sirens Trophy. For the first boat in real time and first in ORC compensated time there is a Locman watch, Official Timekeeper of the regatta, as a prize. The RAN 630 award ceremony will be held on May 1 inside the Naval Academy.
