Fiberglass boats at least 25 years old built since 1967 (so up to 1999) are worth more. They are called Classic Boats, and we at the Journal of Sailing are working-along with several partners-to enhance them as they deserve. One of the key steps in obtaining “Classic Boats of Historical Value by Journal of Sailing” certification is insurance. Getting insurance that takes into account the fair value of the boat, valuing it for what a certified appraiser has reported, is critical.
What are Classic Boats
Used boats are not all the same, especially older boats, and not all of them have the same value. Beauty and uniqueness play a key role in the boat’s valuation, not just the boatyard or annual depreciation. For boats over 25 years old, the designer’s signature is another crucial element in defining their value. In short, there are boats that are luckier than others, born with distinctive characteristics.
But beyond that, in order to boast the certification “Classic Boats of Historical Value by Journal of Sailing,” some basic steps must be taken. The first is that of expertise. It is necessary for the boat to be viewed and verified by an experienced certified surveyor “by Journal of Sailing.” After assessing the condition of the boat, he is able to complete an appraisal form and certify the historical value of the boat. This value is most important for the second step that we explain below.
How to insure them at a fair value
David Insurance is the partner chosen by the Journal of Sailing to certify Classic Boats. The second and very important step to have certification is to insure the boat at a fair value, which transposes the value assigned by the appraiser who also uses as a parameter the “Classic boat of historical value by Journal of Sailing” listing. Insurance broker David Assicurazioni – using leading insurance companies – is able to offer solutions that take into account the congruous value of a Classic Boat. Insure your Classic Boat with David Insurance Is therefore a key step in being able to certify it.
