So-called “mid-size” sailboats in the 1980s-90s could be considered boats around 10 meters; today the market has changed. Shipyards have gradually raised the metric bar of their production, and “mid size” has become the boats between 12 and 13 meters. We have chosen for you a selection of models, this time all Northern European, currently on the market in this metric range, which you can also find in the “Listings” section at the end of the Sail Newspaper’s print magazine, on newsstands every month, with the latest prices communicated by the shipyards.
12.30 m – HR 40C / Hallberg Rassy
A boat that replaces a cult hit like the 40 MKII, but as always in the tradition of this shipyard the evolutions are thoughtful and do not upset what is the historical philosophy of these boats.
Indeed, on the 40 C the aesthetic innovations already seen on the latest models are reintroduced: double rudder, almost straight bow with dolphin guard, and a hull that will also wink at performance. Having said that, the goal of the boat is to improve interior comfort with a series of small changes to the usability of the boat. DISCOVER MORE.

Bavaria C42
/ Bavaria Yachts
Dat one hand there was to respect the philosophy of the Bavaria shipyard, which has built its success on comfortable cruising boats. On the other, market demand: today’s boaters want to have fun sailing, and performance matters too (by the way, the more you sail, the less you pollute: a very timely topic). It was no easy challenge for the Cossutti Yacht Design studio to design the smallest boat in the C-Line range, the new C42. DISCOVER MORE.

Hanse 410
/ Hanse Yachts
The Hanse 410 is one of the newest boats of this boat show season, one of the most visited between the Cannes and Genoa boat shows. Designed by Berret-Racoupeau, the Hanse 410 has distinctive deck geometries, around which the study of interior volumetry revolves.
In fact, the boat has a deckhouse that is XXL in size, in length, width and height, and takes something away in terms of space from the size of the cockpit as well. What the deckhouse takes away on the outside it gives back, with interest, on the inside, as the 410 is probably with the largest volumes on the market in the 12 m range right now. The height of a generous 2 meters in the saloon continues almost unchanged to much of the forward master stateroom, restoring a feeling of significant space. DISCOVER MORE.

Arcona 435
/ Arcona Yachts
For Arcona Yacht, the 435, launched in 2019, was in some ways the relaunch boat after a period when the shipyard had suffered a bit of a crisis and had not presented any new models. The boat has been successful while bringing no major revolutions, remaining in the vein of the Swedish shipyard’s performance cruisers, distinguished by quality and performance. DISCOVER MORE.
