5 used boats from 12.80 to 13.75 m

They are so diverse: some have made yachting history, others are less well known. But they are in any case “supercruisers,” distinctive boats ready to take you cruising in total comfort, without sacrificing the performance worthy of a good sailboat. We present them in ascending order of length. A safe used car: guarantees the Sailing Newspaper!

Centurion 42 – 12.80 m – The “pearl” of Dubois

The first of the used boats we offer today is n Wauquiez Centurion 42 (12.80 x 4.08 m).

Designed by the expert hand of Ed Dubois for the then-famous Admiral’s Cup, the design was then taken over by the renowned French shipyard Henri Wauquiez, which between 1985 and 1990 produced a curated and limited series of only 52 examples for a shipowning market.

The boat for sale is Utopia, number 45 (launched in 1990) and is the version with 3 double cabins, 2 bathrooms and limited draft, only 1.74 m. Equipped with every convenience, it has a 2017 engine and can be seen in Valencia, Spain.

Genesis 43 – 13.10 m – The watershed boat

The second of the used boats for sale in our marketplace is a historic Classic Boat by Giornale della Vela, whose value is likely to grow over time. We are talking about a Genesis 43 (13.10 x 4.02 m) signed by the great Andrea Vallicelli.

Never had anyone dared so much. The Genesis 43 is a boat born to break the mold and has a design never seen before. All of the components are made exclusively for her; you won’t find them on the market. The result is a boat out of the chorus, full of ingenious solutions. Unique.

Production of this innovative sloop did not begin well, caught up in the difficulties of the Comar shipyard in the early 1990s. The boat, however, was so “ahead” that Comar’s new management then reintroduced it with some modifications. First made in 1991, the design was by Andrea Vallicelli, who designed a boat with streamlined lines, characterized by a futuristic deckhouse with a dark central window that gives light to the interior.

The deck equipment is very rich and the cockpit is sufficiently comfortable. The sail plan has a large extended mainsail and a self-tacking jib rigged to 7/8.

The interiors are richly finished and include three cabins, two bathrooms, and a large saloon with a galley at the side and an elliptical-shaped dinette. In the bow is a convenient stowage cove.

The model under review, which can be seen at Marina Sant’Andrea in San Giorgio di Nogaro (Udine), is from 1997 and is fresh from routine and extraordinary maintenance. It is in top condition.

Madeira 44 – 13.50 m – Van de Stadt’s supercruiser

We continue with the third of the boats used in the review, an out-of-the-box model. Not many of you will have heard of the Madeira 44 (13.50 x 4.20 m). A boat designed by Van De Stadt in 1995 (and still buildable, just buy the plans) perfect for tackling any kind of sea in safety, speed and comfort. A boat designed for those who are looking for a home by the sea.

The sail plan, with 7/8 rigging includes a large full-batten mainsail and the high-profile, easy-to-handle jib. The shrouds were placed farther apart, giving the mast better support. Under heavy loads the equipment will never be stressed, which is important in long sailing.

The spacious master cabin (there are two others for guests) is located in the bow and has its own toilet/shower. The “wet” area is located near the entrance, which means you can reach the toilet, chart table, and kitchen with wet clothes without wetting pillows and other hard-to-clean items.

To starboard and aft are ample storage spaces with large hatches. A generator, underwater compressor or heater, etc. can be installed in the deep starboard locker. A folding swim platform is integrated in the transom.

The model for sale is from 2020 and is in its three-cabin, two-bathroom version. Equipped with every convenience, ready to sail, it can be seen in La Spezia.

Moody 45 DS – 13.72 m – The boat-home

We continue our review of used boats with an ultra-comfortable “deck saloon” for true connoisseurs. A Moody 45 DS (13.72 x 4.57 m) that is symbolic of a concept of interior habitability taken to the max. Just think, it has an interior layout that includes a real office nook! The cockpit, protected by the hardtop, is at the same level as the dinette.

A houseboat with every convenience produced since 2010 to the design of Bill Dixon, who has signed so many Moodys.

The model we offer here, seen in Liguria, from 2013, is in the owner’s version with a king-size island bed in the bow, designer en-suite bathroom with separate shower stall, several wardrobes, built-in shelves and drawers.

List some of the amenities: furling mainsail in the mast, retractable stern thruster and bow thruster, 16,000 BTU reversible air conditioner, Webasto heater, Code 0 with Facnor electric furler, self-tacking jib, two Lewmar electric winches, 3000-watt inverter…

Dynamique Express 44 – 13.75 m – The Joubert/Nivelt gem

The last of the used boats on our marketplace is also one out of the chorus. A Dynamique Express 44 (13.75 x 4.40 m) ketch-rigged. The boat, in production from 1980 to 1986, was built by the Dynamique Yachts shipyard to a design by Joubert & Nivelt.

A distinctive boat, characterized by a “flush” deck (by the standards of the time) and the deckhouse positioned very far aft. As very aft is the well-protected cockpit.

The model under review is from 1983. Flying Polish flag is visible in Lazio, Fiumicino. The engine is Perkins (90 horsepower), and the interior-with teak trim-is configured with three cabins, two bathrooms, and a total of nine berths. The boat went through a major refit in 2016 and is still ready to sail (it was surveyed last season, slight osmosis principle to be evaluated in advanced negotiation).
