Musto ‘s new MPX Impact garments for ocean sailing are designed with a unique technology that reduces impact at the most critical points. The biggest innovation found inside the offshore sailing jacket and pants is called D3O, and it is a new material used exclusively for sailing only by Musto. It is, however, a material that is already known and appreciated in a number of areas, suffice it to say that it is found inside helmets and suits of other top-level sports, such as Formula 1 and MotoGP, and also in the equipment of American special forces. This new technology was created to combine lightness with the ability to absorb and dissipate blows, thanks to the polymer characteristics of softness and flexibility that distinguish the polymers of which D3O is composed.
A flexible and durable material
A team of chemists and engineers worked hard to find the right blend with which to make the molded protectors to fit inside the areas usually most stressed during long ocean voyages, such as knees, elbows and hips. The material has been optimized by Musto engineers to adapt the strength and flexibility characteristics of D3O to a mesh that is welded at the most stressed points, without compromising the breathable properties of the fabric where it is inserted.
Musto. The MPX Impact Jacket and Pants.
The items in the collection presented for now are the MPX Gore-Tex Pro Impact jacket and pants, which combine waterproof and windproof features while maintaining great elasticity to ensure a comfortable fit in all conditions. The garments have been tested by world-class sailors at some of the world’s most important sailing events.
Among the exceptional testers of Musto’s MPX Impact collection are Frenchman Armel Le ClĂ©ac’h, skipper of the Ultim Banque Populaire during the last Arkea Challenge, and Briton Will Harris, who tested them during the last The Ocean Race and Transat Jacques Vabre. Their feedback was indispensable to Musto’s development team, which was able to optimize the placement of the protectors based on the stresses and reports provided in the field-and what a field-by these two sailors.
